I’m having this issue on the official prepatch client, but I also had the same issue on Beta.
But of course me messing with the bitrate only breaks the audio of a different game. Wonderful.
Hello ! A bit of information, my friend repared files on WoW, lowered a little bit much the biterate in the windows audio properties of his headset and also enable 7.1 (or 5.1) on his headset software settings and all of this solved the issue.
So I don’t know if enabling 7.1 did solved the issue or if just turning on and off 7.1 would have done the trick by refreshing audio but at least it worked for him.
I don’t know if any of your speakers/headset/headphones have spatialization settings appart from the ones Windows have but it might be useful to try that.
Sadly lowering the bitrate isn’t a viable option for me. The option it’s usually on vanishes when I change it until I restart my PC and changing it breaks the audio of another game I play. Also the bitrate change doesn’t seem to be working for one or two people above. Try changing your audio output from whatever it usually is to system default and back in-game for the time being, see if that works. It’s temporary, but it might help.
Same issue here… Plz do something for that
I’m really glad it’s not just me. Was worried I’d have to get a new pair of headphones. I’ve had this issue exactly since the prepatch came out and I can’t even stand to listen to the game audio like this. If I screw around with the sound channel settings in-game it goes away for a ~little~ bit usually, but then it comes right back with pulsing crackles.
Please Lord, save me from this awful awful audio crackling, it is driving me mad.
I LOVE YOU GUYS
I thought my headset was broken.
I’m so relieved.
So with a good number of people getting this and across different versions of Windows/OS, clearly the update did something. Blizzard, this is no longer on our end. Fix it please.
I’m also having this issue while on my DeathKnight
Same here, when I tested my class on beta I had this same issue and didn’t think much of it. Thought it’d be fixed before live release. Tried a few more fixes today but nothing had worked so far. It has to be an issue on blizzard’s end.
Its happened to me on three occasions on my death knight. The last two were both inside Old Hillsbrad in Caverns of Time.
I wish I could stop this madness, it’s very bad and happens constantly
Also having this issue. I first noticed it on the PTR and now unfortunately it’s also on the live client.
The only time it seems to happen so far on the live client is in AV. I’m not sure if it’s due to a lot of people performing a lot of actions/spells, or if it’s due to a specific audio cue. Someone else mentioned Death Knights, so maybe when one of their audio files plays (or attempts to play?)
Potential workaround below
Hi all - I’ve had this same issue, random crackling in my left headphone. Kind of sounds like a campfire crackling.
I don’t play a DK, but there’s every chance it was triggered when I was in close proximity to a DK who used an ability or something that triggered it.
What fixed it for me (at least for now) is:
- Going to ‘Change system sounds’ in Windows 10 (hopefully there’s the same/similar option in Windows 11)
- Go to the ‘Playback’ tab
- Find your current audio device: speakers, headphones etc, whatever you’re using - it should have a little green circle with a tick on it
- Right click on the audio device → Disable. Right click again → Enable.
This worked straight away for me. I’ll probably have to repeat these steps when it starts happening again, though.
OK - almost certainly triggered by a DK ability. It started again as soon as I grouped up and killed some mobs with a DK. Fortunately the same workaround resolved it again.
Looks like blizz acknowledged the issue here;
Yah that’s my topic, can also pretty much confirmed it’s tied to DKs in some way.
Yeah as more DK’s hit max level it’s becoming more unbearable to pvp with this issue. Hope it’s fixed soon it’s getting incredibly frustrating…
its not just dk abilities. It is happening to me in world with no dk’s around. it seems to be triggered by multiple different things and dk abilities are one of them. It’s horrible.
It happens in shatt too with no dk’s around using abilities.
