It hurts my ears and gives me a headache…
Try my fix above. It’s worked for me and many of my friends.
Has it come back?
It has not come back. Did the fix a week ago and haven’t heard crackling since.
Wrath is Stereo only if anyone is on windows 10 using Windows Sonic or Dolby Atmos turn off surround sound for the dedicated audio channel you have the game set to and the crackling will stop. Wrath is trying to send audio through channels that don’t exist in surround which is causing your popping issues.
I’ve been having this problem too! I didn’t connect the dots. Thought my headset maybe did a driver update that was crap, or it was related to my discord comms.
I’m not going to even try these " simple fix", this is blizzard’s problem, im not going to fix their problem
I’m noticing everytime I have popping issues, my playback device has enabled an 8 Channel setting. By default its set to a normal 2 channel stereo, but for some reason when I launch the client, or while im playing it flips?
I have ICUE (Corsair headset) and it manages my headphones settings, but in that I have surround disabled as well.
Is there some setting somewhere im missing? Audio enhancements for win 10 are disabled, no sonic sound enabled or anything.
One change I just made was disabling “Audio Responsitioning” in icue, which is a component of surround sound. Maybe this helps someone.
Was really hoping this would be fixed this patch. Losing faith, man. You’d think a game this big would get some decent development money.
This is one issue that is really inexcusable tbh. Its been two weeks and this needs to be fixed.
Nice to know the issue is more widespread, was real close to RMAing my headset.
Had a couple other people on my server talking about it also when I brought it up. I have a Logitech headset but people I talked to had different brands.
Yeah it’s in the left channel for me also when it happens.
Trying Beric’s suggestion. Will be back with update soon.
It looks like it’s caused by playing as (or even just being near) a Death Knight. And yes, Beric’s suggestion is the temporary workaround. You can either add the line to the config file like he said or run the command from the console.
this is STILL happening to me as of 9/16. with or without game sound i get audio pops and crackling while playing the game. as soon as I close wow it goes away. PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE BLIZZARD I CANT PLAY WOW WITH ALL THIS CRACKLING HAPPENING
Still happening for me as well, have tried all the little ‘fixes’.
I thought it was my headphones… glad it isn’t just me
I’ve also tried all the little fixes and the only real “fix” is to close out of WoW entirely. This is really sad that they aren’t doing anything about this
Still happening
