The auction house is a pile of hot garbage. Price manipulation is literally its own game to a small minority of the game's population. Should 5% of the players really get to decide all the prices?
I'm a low level player. (returning after 5 years)
I'm planning to sell 4 moonclothes that I succeeded in crafting. I'm well aware that I might have to post those several times before they sell since they are vanilla stuff.
If I want to sell 1 mooncloth for 2000G, I need to deposit 400g which is half of all the money I own. If the auction house doesn't return me this deposit when the auction fails I will be broke AF.
Is that normal?!
Because it sure seems pretty crazy to me.

this remains among one of the worst changes ever implemented in this game. the auction house is a joke thanks to this change - mats sellers have dropped out of the market in huge quantities, rare mounts, boes, and transmog markets have dried up to nothingness.

Sadly, you are screwed if it fails to sell... I've just started hording the materials until Blizz hopefully fixes this useless change.
Almost 3 weeks and no response from Blizzard, I am really hoping that they are working on something, and this doesn't get pushed aside and forgotten about.

Yes. Because if you don't like it, you have the power to change things.
The 5% is doing nothing but profiting from your laziness.
I would be quite happy for a minimum or 10 or 20 crafting mats per stack. I don't actually like having 200+ auctions going on, but if I want the ore to sell, that is what I have to do.
Rather than placing a limit on stacks a player can have on the auction house of a certain item is it possible to place a limit on the number of stacks of 9 or less for each stackable item... for example john Hancock can have as many stacks of 10 iron ore as he wants on the auction house but he may only have 20 stacks of iron ore less than 10.(4,4,4,4,3,3,3,2,2,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1) this would cut a possible 1000 single stacks of iron ore down to a maximum of 118. In addition to the new auction house deposit formula I think this would suffice to discourage spamming an unnecessary amount of single stacks without limiting those of us who often do monopolize trade goods. That said thank goodness we aren't getting a minimum requirement for stack sizes this would make getting items such as blue dragon scales so much more difficult.
Placing a maximum limit on stacks of a certain item would be ridiculous. If John Hancock wants to go dump all of his gold into netherweave cloth and Jack the prices up by posting 100 stacks of 200 at 200% market value he should have that right. It's my right to not buy his crap, let him take the hit on the deposits, then go farm some cloth and undercut him isn't it? Why is it a problem posting several rationally sized stacks? Because you might get undercut and nobody will see your posts for a few pages? If it's not a million stacks of 1 in front if your stacks then newsflash that's not cheap that's the auction house...
um if you guys read the fix is temp till they update the whole AH system. They just don't have time right now with everything else that is broke to do a full update on the AH system.
For CRYING OUT LOUD how hard is it to make an interface where EVERY AUCTION BY A PLAYER FOR THE SAME ITEM is listed as a single stack and have a mean to buy 1 to 200 from that stack?

For the seller you can have an option to use STACKS that can not be broken i.e you sell a 200 stack as a whole not as single and an option to sell X from that 200.
This is what you should be providing. I need 5 of X there are 20.000 available from A to Z so buy me 5 at lowest price and voila...how hard can it be?

blizzard has been promising updates to the auction house for almost 5 years now. i wouldnt hold my breath.
I give up how long would it take you. Let see they still working on fixing classes, future planned updates, fixing broken items from when the expansion went live, and fixing the broken items from when it was still in Alpha/Beta. As long as it only applies to Trade Mats - it might be OK.

i am trying to send crafted armor over to the other faction, but my buying alt on the other faction and account will not see the item listed (a buying alt on the same faction but another account will see it listed, and can bid/buyout)
this is with 2 wow licenses all under one battlenet login; this used to be the way i'd move stuff between factions when only the Goblin AHs were linked

The main issue here is trying to manipulate the behavior of the suppliers without any consideration to allow purchasers to influence the market. The focus should be "How can we give buyers more purchasing power and influence in price setting?" Changing the deposit for items is not giving any consideration to the characters buying said items. There are one or more changes, small and large, that could be made to enable buyers to have substantial influence in the market.
1. Allow buyers to search by high/low bid price per item and buyout price per item. Multiple addons already have this feature, this gives buyers more opportunity to dictate what price they buy it for instead of only seeing bid price per unit.
2. Add more functionality to the search options. More specifically, allow players to search by ranges of prices, i.e. min buyout 3g to max buyout 10g.
3. Allow players to buy partial stacks. For example, if I put a stack of 200 tidespray line on the AH, a player can say, I want to buy 10 pieces, and the remaining 190 stay on the AH until it is ended or bought out completely.
4. Allow players to set the length of their auction. Most people that play the AH, generally have a fairly good idea how often they will have to repost an item. Thus, instead of having only 48 hours, the seller can state I want to put it on for 2 weeks, and maybe pay a little higher deposit, but less than what it would be to post it 7 times for 48 hours over that same period.
5. Finally, since the mobile AH is gone, buyers have lost the power to search for prices when they are not logged onto their computer. Thus, they are subject to the prices on the AH at the given time they log in and search. My solution is to create a Bid House. This is like the auction house only instead of sellers posting items, buyers will post what they want and sellers will fill that order.
Example:
Buyer 1 is looking for Gloom Dust to make an enchant or two. Buyer 1 has limited of time in which they can log onto their machine. So before they log off, they put a bid out that they want 20 Gloom Dust and are willing to pay up to 30g per dust. A buyer or buyers would then search the Bid House for people that are looking to buy Gloom Dust. The buyers would then send their bid of how many and how much Gloom Dust they are willing to sell to the buyer. That Gloom dust is than held by the system until the Bid is accepted or declined. The next time the buyer logs on, they would see 1 or more bids if buyers are willing to sell to them, or bid was unsuccessful. This results in the buyer being able to choose their price, sellers would than have indicators on whether they priced the item to high and adjust down. If buyers received 0 bids, then they know they must adjust their prices up. Finally, put a restriction to penalize buyers that place a bid, receive 1 or multiple bids but choose to not fulfill the bid.
