Attacking game developers

most people here don’t have a clue about any of it. i’m pretty sure at least 20% of GD literally believes mike ybarra and ion and bobby kotick sit in a room together to write quest text.

I mean… I get what you’re trying to say. It’s impossible to please everybody and there will always be some people who blame the devs for not catering to their personal taste.

But some design decisions are so problematic that they endanger the game and its integrity because they have a huge impact, so it’s not always coming down to “Well can’t please everyone duh”. And when the devs then refuse to do something about it or even double down on it, then it’s probably the right thing to wonder what’s going on and if they even have a clue about the game and what’s going on in the playerbase.

Indeed.

Similar to the “everything is because of management”. As if Bobby Kotick sits by the coders’ desks and tells them how to organize the talent trees.

He was the super genius with a marine biology degree responsible for class balance and making sure everything was balanced I thought. And he also single handedly made Cataclysm while the dev team stood back in amazement and watched for two years.

Good luck, i like to see them try, Im ripped IRL.

BFA did a really cool thing IMO where they had you revisit old zones like Uldum and Vale of Eternal Blossoms, but revamped with current event stuff. This seemed like a win-win to me for two reasons. One, it gets us reusing old zones from places we may not have otherwise visited, because something new is happening there. Something new that pertains to the current expansion. This gives a sense of realism in the world that each continent and zone isn’t like it’s own little bubble, but it’s all connected. Two, it also gives the developers an excuse to be lazy, if you want to call it that, by not having to make content from scratch and use pre-existing content as a starting base. This can help developers make more better content while also saving some development time.
But you are entirely correct, in that everything new nowadays seems nearly entirely tied to a patch. New zone and everything comes in a box, and next patch we move to the other box with new stuff, leaving the previous one to collect dust. Not very integrated to me.

We really can’t do anything creative when the powers to be only see one side ,even if we have a good ideas they are the one doing the decisions.

No upper management says meet these quotas and game design devs listen. Its all about maximizing player interaction and doing things like holding off on quality of life changes until the end of an expansion are the best example of them purposefully stalling the game and then trying to bring up metrics again.

They really are so sleazy.

Not exactly that. But he or other management staff are the ones who tell the people at their desks that they don’t get to finish the talent trees and they should just make them at least playable, because they need to rush the new expansion.
That’s what happened with DF according to one of the lead devs who left the company and even in the beta forums one dev said that. I think it was in the Priest section, when he told people that there’s no time for more big changes and they have to work on it during the expansion.

Any quality of life changes shouldn’t be delayed for any reason, and should be implemented as soon as they’re finished testing them for bugs. New content is a different matter, that I understand a delay, but there’s no justifiable reason to intentionally delay quality of life fixes to the game.

yep. people hear that management is ultimately responsible for all decisions and think that means they literally make every decision personally.

it’s the same reason people think elon musk is a genius who personally designed the tesla, spacex rockets, etc.

Look none of you know what you’re talking about. Okay look when MS finishes the buyout nothing is going to change. The problem is internal if there is one and how Blizzard choses to do things these days.

He actually thinks the microsoft buyout is going to affect game quality lol

and did he make that decision because he’s a big meanie who doesn’t care about the product? no, he made it because his boss told him so, because that person’s boss told them so, because ultimately the shareholders are what a publicly traded company is focused on. that’s not specific to blizzard.

I like to remain hopeful, but it’s also one of those “I’ll believe it when I see it” ordeals.

But they’ve done that since wrath… we had catch up gear from trial of the champion… It has been a consistent thing since then.

I agree… Nerf Demon Hunters.
<.< >.> >;)

New raid will now contain chores… you and your group will now have to pick up randomly generated garbage off the ground before you can get to the boss.

That doesn’t sound very appetizing.

The only thing it’s going to change is maybe more people will be playing blizzard games and ABK will be putting out more mobile games.

Oh it’ll change the whole of it will. Software and programming will change or this forum wouldn’t be this way.

Oh , I forgot more advertisement.

That’s just toxic. Mods can we get a 1 minute timeout here?

Do it anyway!

Nah Bethesda is still bethesda’ing, and the rest are still doing whatever they were doing before. I guess if there was some pressure from Kotick to do things then that might vanish, but I doubt much will change.

Now if you do release something unfinished and trashy then MS I think might do something.
