This isn’t true, he has said on stream a couple times that if you are going out harassing other people you are a problem.
Almost everything else about him is true though. He’s not a great person but he has condemed the actions of the portion of his fanbase harassing other creators he doesn’t like. However, he’s done nothing about these people. Just said “don’t do it.”
And I honestly respect when people challenge mine as well. I’ll admit to being biased; I’m a roleplayer, and Project 60 was absolutely some of the worst weeks of WoW I’ve had in a long time. In learning who was behind it, I DEFINITELY have a thing against him for a reason.
I don’t watch a lot of WoW content creators, not since Cox 'n Crendor stopped doing WoW content. But people like Asmongold and xQc just…I don’t know, they might be performing personas, but that definitely doesn’t help the way people respond to them as idols. People do as people see, and if they see people blowing up and insulting people and spitting on people and the like, they’re going to think that’s okay because their idols do it.
I might sound ridiculous, but a personality I respect is Markiplier. The way he manages his community might be a high standard, but it’s what I think about when I think of a big time individual who doesn’t stand for toxicity. He has that high energy, but he does it without being…well, like Asmongold.
I appreciate that. I flat out refuse to give him views on either platform, so I haven’t seen more than a few clips from separate YouTube channels on him. My personal disdain for him, as I said above, was the Project 60 stunt. And what I’ve seen on Twitter from the streamers I respect more (Toweliee, Sloot, etc.) and they do not have as much good to say about him, so that’s the experience I have.
He’s made two videos in the past month highlighting how to moderate and ban people and also how to attempt to cultivate a positive audience
He’s made videos on how to build up a streaming platform
He’s made WoW guide videos
He’s even made videos on about stream personas
I think from the evidence we can gather he’s made a pretty large effort to try to make his impact lessened
The amount of exposure he’s given to smaller channels to make them explode and provide people with other quality content has its merits
I feel like there is a level of responsibility you have over you audiences actions and it seems he’s made the effort to reduce the harm the idiots in his chat can have
He’s not perfect, he’s done some bad stuff but to sit here and act like he hasn’t tried to stop that stuff is completely unreasonable
Sorry I dont listen to scrawny creeps, and i ve just added you in that category since you think like that or think that is any form of competent trolling.
Or maybe people just dont like blizzard selling mounts on the store and just agreed with him instead of being manipulated by him and were going to be rude regardless.
I think its funny how this can be toxic but people in the same reddit saying his mother should die, call the dude a creepy and his gf cheated him and he deserved etc is soo “anti-toxic”
Shocking i guess.
At the end of the day he is a normal person that mastered a craft in online community entertaining them and collecting the positive and negative results that most people would have to deal anyway, his skeletons are pretty much childish internet drama related to a teen rated videogame whereas top youtube content creators are too busy calling each other and other out of nowhere.
Its pretty disproprotional considering many “anti-evil” celebreties have ties with mafia related business and people like Epstein. But are still praised as examples, regardless.
Then it seems I am wrong about that, I apologize. I don’t follow him often but I do know from snippets of drama I’ve seen he doesn’t condone his fans doing it. But if it is indeed true that he has discussed things like that, I apologize because that means he obviously is trying to somewhat change his toxic fanbase and I was wrong about that.
Yeah as far as the dodgy stuff he’s done at least it’s had a reason behind it, whilst I don’t agree we should negatively impact people the damage is so negligible it’s more like it sounds bad but it’s not really
He doesn’t like store mounts because they could be rewards for in game content and they generally use really good mounts for the store
And MG copped project 60 but I’m pretty sure that was because they are one of the servers least impacted by CRZ
Also it’s a damn role play server; a bunch of people came to role play being level 60 and he asserted himself as the best role player on the server by coming the dark lord of moon guard
I like mark too. I haven’t watched some of his content in a while, but I did enjoy it when I did.
I think it just boils down to different strokes for different folks. But obviously if someone does something like asmon did and it ruins your fun, I can definitely sympathize on not liking him. That’s a legitimate reason.
I like pewdiepie a lot, another person who I’ve stopped watching in the past few months for no particular reason. Man has said some rather carelessly things, but I find him to be a genuine and real person.
Off topic but I think “dr.k talks to xqc” is a good watch if you ever got time to listen to just talking. I found it both interesting and honestly as someone near the age of xqc to be helpful in the mental health department. It makes me happy that there is a channel like dr.k who helps people, and publicly so that others can get “aoe healing” from it.
You can disagree with the practice of selling store mounts but not be an absolute jerk about it like he is. Opinions are subjective, it’s in their nature.
Those people are also toxic. I’m not saying he’s the only source of it, but I am saying that he is an idol for toxicity in the game. His fanbase is easily the worse bunch, and up until recently he hadn’t done anything to address it. If the above poster is to be believed, however, and he’s actually making videos to deal with trolls, maybe he’s finally starting to realize that, as an influencer, he needs to do more.
Oh he’s definitely not the worst YouTuber out there. I follow a lot of the drama stuff that happens there, and whew…yikes. But in regards to WoW? He’s absolutely the worst for drama. Most of the other streamers keep their noses clean (other than T&E, which…also not fond of). But he definitely puts too much emphasis on thinking his opinion is the only right opinion. And I’ve always been very against anyone who will preach their belief as law.
I might check this out.
I think a big thing for me is…I’m a girl. And you know the stigma about girls in videogames. I think the streamers/YouTubers/internet personalities that attract the type of people who would make derogatory remarks at me (PewDiePie’s whole “make me a sandwich” thing always rubbed me the wrong way, but that was yeeeears ago when I stopped watching him) are the ones I really and genuinely do not like. Asmongold and xQc both have that type of personality, whereas someone like Mark or JackSepticEye or Ohmwrecker are just all goofy in a fun, non-insulting way.
I respect people that like the people I don’t, and I’m definitely not the type to say anything mean to them (other than a few choice YouTubers I shall not name here…), but I do genuinely hold a belief that just having a persona can have a monumental effect on your viewers and how they interact with other people in the game.
Thanks for the recommendation, though. I’ll have to check that out. And in the same vein, there’s a documentary I watched about…oh, Sinatraa! There’s a video that details his journey from being one of Overwatch’s most toxic players to one of the best team leaders. I would highly recommend that as a watch as well because it touches quite a bit on how some content creators/players need to take a moment and look internally when there is criticism against them, even if they have their fans.
Definitely will. Idk why but I always found documentaries about other gamers to be “up my ally” kind of thing. I look forward to it 6 hours when I get home from work lol
