I watch Asmon. I like his content. But let’s call this what it is:
Asmon has the ability to completely ruin Forever.
And before somebody hits me with the galaxy-brain response of, “LOL mad because Asmon has a big guild,” that’s not the point.
Vanilla worked because the social structure mattered. Your server mattered. Your reputation mattered. Guilds mattered. Trading mattered. Rivalries mattered. PvP mattered.
Then WoW slowly figured out how to turn communities into systems, rewards, checklists, and giant anonymous blobs. Guild achievements were a perfect example. Suddenly, instead of joining a guild because you liked the people, there was incentive to pile into giant guilds because BIG GUILD = MORE STUFF.
Now we’re about to speedrun that same problem.
Asmon isn’t just making a guild. He’s building Olympus across Alliance, Horde, and multiple servers, with a massive audience capable of instantly filling those communities.
At some point, you’re not participating in the server anymore.
You ARE the server.
That’s the problem.
I’m sure I’ll get called fat, stupid, a crybaby, told to touch grass, and informed that my mother is somehow involved. Cool. Get it out of your system.
But I was genuinely interested in Forever, and now I don’t plan on playing it.
Why?
Because if streamer mega-communities dominate the social, trading, guild, and PvP ecosystems from day one, then stop calling it a recreation of the Vanilla experience.
Vanilla never had one dude sitting in front of tens of thousands of people saying, “Everybody join this guild, roll here, buy this, farm that, and attack these guys.”
That technology and audience didn’t exist at this scale.
I’m literally watching the beta while writing this, and honestly, it’s kind of disgusting watching one streamer community swallow the experience that everybody else is supposedly there to test.
So maybe the Collector’s Edition selling out before I bought one was divine intervention.
Saved me some money.
Asmon, seriously:
Do Forever a favor.
Play it.
Stream it.
Enjoy it.
But when it launches, don’t turn the entire game into Olympus: The MMO.
