Asking for religious sensitivity from Blizzard

If you pay attention to what the Bible is saying, the term ‘god’ is applied to anything a person worships or places an inordinate amount of affection for.

This could be anything, from an actual deity idol, to a baseball card collection. When God said “there shall be no other gods before Me” basically what He is saying is that there is nothing, absolutely nothing, that should be loved, cherished and sought after more than He.

He’s not saying “these other gods, the golden calf, the Egyptian gods, etc are real but are less powerful than Me”, He’s simply telling the Jews to set their eyes on Him and don’t be lured away by these idols of wood, stone and metal.

i’ve been to churches all across the country. small ones. big ones. anything you can imagine. i’ve even read a messianic jewish bible and talked with jews for jesus about it. all of them said the same thing when i asked. that the bible is perfect truth from start to finish and that belief in it and accepting jesus as your savior is what gets you into heaven. if you think something explicitly stated in the bible isn’t true, you’re not actually a christian.

I would agree on that, that a “Christian” who rejects parts of the Bible (assuming they are using a KJV…) needs a serious look at their faith.

If someone rejects part of the Bible, then why can they seriously claim they believe in other parts?

Other than myself pickle jesus Thrall is my favorite minor god…

Atheist here, just wanted to say that y’all wildin’

I know this is nowhere near religious, but I am old enough to remember that “Maine C o on” was once a cat in the game and also a breed in real life (my daughter in law owns one) until it caused such an uproar it was renamed in the game.

I’m waiting for Bastard Swords to be renamed though but so far it has survived.

There are indeed practical limitations on renaming things.

I draw the line with deities. If it’s a deity, then its name probably shouldn’t be used in-game without at least some altering (IE, “Odyn” instead of “Odin”).

EDIT: I suppose major figures like Jesus and Mohammed should probably be off-limits too.

I suppose with the fact that he wears an eye patch WoW’s version of Herne could probably be considered the Wodan (Odin) iteration…

along the same lines, I remember the black chicken of death also. it got removed, was named ‘the black’ in spanish. somehow the spanish language is racist now. blizzard caters to the offended crowd waaaay too much already.

i’m debating if it’s worth it to start posting links to bible passages to show what’s actually there but i have a feeling i’m talking to someone who listens to what their pastor says and has never actually read the bible all the way through. sigh.

I don’t go to Church, so I don’t listen to pastors, lol.

But ya, not the kind of conversation to have on these forums I would admit. that’d be like a discord thing or some other forums that allow private messages such as TCF or something.

we’ve kept it respectful so far so if you’d like to finish this conversation on discord i’d add you. we don’t need to STAY friends though. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m very much a Christian, however OP, I disagree with you.

This is a virtual fantasy game that has nothing whatsoever to do with reality.

If there is something you feel you can’t accept or deal with you are not required to do it.

I feel the current world is far too sensitive to things. Everything around us seems to offend first one person then another.

It’s a really big world in reality and we need to step back, not take things so personally. We can agree with something or disagree with something but that doesn’t mean that something should be removed or altered.

On game content may reference reality, or not, it may use reality content or not. It still however is a virtual fantasy game that is set in a different galaxy basically… The galaxy of World of Warcraft. Different rules, different values, different content.

If we feel we can’t accept or if we feel offended by a fantasy game then we are not obligated to play it.

I play Diablo III as well, and wow it’s pretty dark and um, yeah… lol Then again I play the “good guy” who goes around killing demons “bad guys.”

I don’t feel a game should necessarily be “sensitive” to every person on the planet. Actually I don’t think that is even possible. There will always be something that offends someone. So, just create a game that many people enjoy playing and if something offends someone, they don’t have to play that game.

I suppose we could do that. At least we don’t have to worry about bans, and junk.

Eh, personally, Diablo 3’s storyline dips into blasphemous territory with me, and I really don’t like it.

It’s one thing if they want to make their own universe and make their own versions of demons and stuff, but they are going a wee bit too far into the Christian concept of angels and demons, and the part where angels and demons ‘get together’ to produce the human race was just… disgusting.

But that’s just my personal preference. I don’t ask them to change the story; I simply stopped playing the game.

I fully believe you!

I know about the Pagan part of it, and some of my views are coming from the Witch (Wicca specifically) view, which tends to focus pretty heavily on Celtic origins. I do think, however, we can agree on my original point. Christians did not begin these Holidays.

Nice bait but ok

sent. this should be a good conversation. i’m a religion nerd in general and love to debate all kinds of things!
