Steven Sharif confirmed that he resigned from Intrepid Studios and that Intrepid is laying off all of its employees within the next 24 hours and closing up shop.
I feel bad for the developers who spent over a decade working on this game, but I feel like the writing was on the wall for AoC like 6 years ago or something.
Shame.
See more and more Western companies that took a shot at an MMO wind up cancelling it or being forced to shutter the doors due to financial strain. Glad WoW has stuck around for as long as it has since personally I just can’t get in to the Eastern MMOs with their gacha mechanics or heavy RNG upgrading systems or gender locked classes that lean way too much in to female bias because gooner outfits sell.
Competition breeds innovation and progression but it helps if other companies get to the starting line first instead of dying in the warm-ups.
still bit of a shock that Ashes was a scam, like i remember, years ago, in the general forums players were saying this game was THE wow killer (lol).
But also WoW in general is still kicking it, this expac is so far amazing. And i think its not competition but keeping that player-base-amount and money-flow coming in.
The current campaign is great
