Fomo. I came at the end and didn’t know about it either but from what I gathered, it was a challenge to prove your worth at your class/spec. In doing so you got some sweet transmogs. All this talk about opening it back up makes those people feel less speshul. It’s been 10years since then.
Depends what you’re talking about. The appeal of transmog is obvious, and mage tower rewarded some very unique ones to certain classes, many of which had no near-equivalents (neon cat and werebear for druids, for example)
As for the tower itself, there’s not a lot of good single-player skill expression in WoW (it’s an MMO after all) so the challenges were fun and unique. Thankfully, these challenges can still be done in the modern day, and still offer some rewards (armor recolors and spelltome mount, which I love)
The contention is the permanent inability to access some cool and unique transmog options.
Because some of the artifact mogs or ( dudu forms) from the tower are very unique, even the best for that specific artifact. And its made exclusive for something that was obsolete by the end of the expansion. It would be fine if it was a hardcore challenge untill the end, but its litteral FOMO because you didn’t play at specific date. Also them going back on AOTC mount policy and keeping this one makes absolute 0 logic.
The difficulty of Mage Tower is somewhere between ?? and ? difficulties with the Delves nemesis like Underpin or Zekvir, in terms of challenge.
For some, it was drastically easier than others.
It was a fun challenge of your spec with a weapon appearance as a reward. Something to congratulate friends and guildies for doing and show off in main towns. Hard but doable. I only had trouble on my main (holy/ret pally at the time) because of a colorblind issue. An addon to help and I did it easily. By the end of the xpac even casuals outgeared it so I did it on all of my alts.
Now it seems to have been turned into an elitist thing that only the super best could apparently do. This was not true.
I do understand why the appearances would not be re-released but I don’t get the outrage from either side. It’s just a game and having it doesn’t make you special, nor does missing out on it make you less.
Druids forms seemed to be the biggest FU for anyone who skipped it.
For many specs I preferred the Hidden Skins over the MT versions and those are still available.
The Demo Lock version as an example.
Theres a skin for a Demo Warlock?
Yeah. You need to collect Eredar skulls from demons.
Demonology
Hidden Effect: The skull will periodically whisper to you - depending on zone, spell cast, or target killed, this whisper changes.
Hidden Appearance: Thal’kiel’s Visage - Unlocked via Visage of the First Wakener
A floating severed Eredar head.
Oh damn, thats still doable?
It’s simple OP.
People want what they cannot have.
Tale as old as time.

I think all of the hidden artifact skins are still available.
I could be wrong, but isn’t every skin available except mage tower? The pvp ones didn’t even go away, did they?
The Druid appearances you could earn for Feral and Guardian were great, and very much worth pursuing. The Guardian challenge was very very difficult; so much more so than other specs that druids were getting ridiculed here by the usual crowd for saying the mage tower is hard. The weapon appearances you’d get for other classes/specs were not worth it, to me anyway.
Are you referring to the Legion Prestige system which was converted into the Honor system and gave appearances as you do more PvP and is since the end of Legion earned through the PvP you do account-wide? That’s still available.
The Mage Tower cat form is the only outstanding one in the game. The rest are like, meh. Close second is the Firelands form which is a 35% drop in Firelands off Fandral Staghelm.
People were doing 100+ pulls.
On my other account I got the feral form and the disc priest form, a spec I was playing at the time. I recall the disc priest form looked like a staff that was growing moss on it.
When it was live I truly had no idea what it was for, and I thought it was just for a recolor of stuff I already owned at the time I did not see a point of getting anything from it.
I was messing around with it last week. I don’t know if they are tuned right or I’m just getting old but I was getting destroyed. It seemed easier when I did it back when it was new.
It was originally designed as one of the 3 buildings with useful features that players could donate Legionfall resources they would grind in the zone. Yes, it was intended as a challenge for top players to showcase their mastery of the spec. Surprise, surprise, people who realized it was not intended for them to do stopped grinding resources to donate to that building, because the other two buildings had features that were useful to them. Blizzard had to start a PR campaign “you’ll be able to outgear it by the end of the expansion and do it then” and change the frequency so it was up a lot independently of player donations. It never would have popped if grinding elites, finding chests, and world quests in that zone were only being donated by the original target demographic.
I thought guardian was one of the easier tanks to complete, personally. But I did it during Antorus patch with cheesy legendaries. Vengeance DH was the easiest tank challenge by far because their wings basically made them immune to infernals knocking them off the edge
I have all the weapons.
FOMO is a meme.
lmao.
