As a parent - we need better parental controls

I’ve never seen a Tauren wearing bunny ears for so long, but it happens clearly.
Some people use terms generically.

This has absolutely no relevance to my point which is simply
“if the GM agrees, even if it is not explicitly harmful, you can still be moderated for it.”.

Argue semantics with someone else. I don’t care for it since it doesn’t contribute to the discussion in a helthy way.

It has been a while since I agreed to it, but I do remember seeing it before booting BFA up

Trust me, everything you are trying to stop your kids from seeing in game, they hear about in the hall ways at school and joke about their friends with at lunch.

Every kid knows about Youtube, most of them know about Urban Dictionary, and some of them probably bounce over to 4chan.

“explicitly harmful” is subjective.
(and i’ve still never heard anyone use the term “moderation” in regards to in-game account actions)

terminology is vital… especially if people want to get nit-picky.

ugh… if you want to tell me i’m wrong, at least have the decency to provide links.
…it’s not as if i’m a stranger to policies, so if i’m wrong, i want to be given the correct information.

Using racist terms is explicitly harmful and not subjective.

And the best thing to do is ignore it since as I said, it means nothing and is just arguing in bad faith.

Dude…I didn’t take a picture since I did not imagine I’d be discussing the matter with a Tauren in a bunny suit.

people here are trying to argue that “words are just words” and “words can’t hurt” and that sort of thing.
if racist terms were so harmful, more people would be actioned.
however, it seems the community is numb to this sort of behaviour, and it’s condoned by the server populations who fail to report it.

The OP is asking for more control to block these things.
It doesn’t seem like an unreasonable request.

not at all.

words mean things.
clarity is important.
i will ALWAYS correct someone when they call a suspension a “ban”, or call a squelch a “silence”, or call a connected realm “merged”.

all of those words have very specific meanings.
…but i guess we’re in the era of “if i choose for my words to identify as words which they’re actually not, then that’s fine”.

I’M A RABBIT.
(see how that works?) :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

you wouldn’t need to.
if it was still a thing, it would be on the website.
yes, we know it existed in the past, but stuff changes.

The reason it is an unreasonable request is because the system is in place to censor such terms already. If someone bypasses it, bam, they get hammered accordingly. There is no perfect system to completely block such toxic behavior, and attempting to do so simply is a waste of resources. If you don’t wanta child being exposed to such behavior, you either simply remove everything but party chat, then hope your kid isn’t intelligent enough to put it back.

And none of them are synonymous terms like terms of usage or terms of service. Both of which fulfill the same legal obligation.

Bunny.

I don’t care enough for this discussion to really go searching. I know that is pure laziness on my part.

the fact that a language filter exists, doesn’t mean people can use filtered words with impunity.

not at all.
the only reason they’d get hammered, is if others choose to report it.

thanks to the people who discourage reporting by claiming “reports do nothing”, people have become apathetic about reporting.

…and neither of those matter, because apparently nobody reads anything anyway.

I was simply claiming that it no longer exists, and was seeking documentation to prove myself wrong.

fine, i’ll settle for bunny. :rabbit2:

Hence why you have the GMs to spank em.

It takes only a single report for it to be reviewed.

I used to read them, but the documentation is extremely long, purposefully, to make people less willing to read it.

fits this topic quite nice

not in the slightest.

your image implies manslaughter (or… floraslaughter)

…not exactly the same thing as requesting additional chat options in a social game.

How about people stop trying to regulate the world around them to compensate for a lack of parenting.

Unless you’re on Aman’Thul, where it’s more like, “what trade chat?”

I cannot attest to what happens on Amun’Thul as I am on Dath’Remar, but the trade chat here is quite lively.

Rated T for teen, not restricted at all though.

An advisory is not a restriction. Dunno why people don’t seem to understand that.

If a kid is too young for trade chat stuff, turn trade off and monitor what they’re doing. Wow isn’t a babysitter. Actually play alongside your kid.

As someone who started around the age of 10, maybe 9… can’t remember, I’ve never ever had any real problem with random whispers, guildies, or anything like that. And yes, I played on moonguard for a while too. If anything it was pretty lonely on all realms as no one wants to talk to anyone under 18.

if your kid is older than 8 i would sit them down and explain all kinds of things so when they are introduced to them it wont have such a negative impact. But if you just want cuss words or sexual terms disabled there is some add-on out there that if you put key words it silences the whole sentence preventing it from showing up in the chat box. Don’t put your kid in a bubble or they gonna be bullied as an adult as i got a first hand experience from that with a overprotective mother.

I support more options for parental controls!

My 3 boys 10, 12, and 14 know better than to repeat what they read. Not to mention they rarely pay any attention to chat, most often they just mess around for a bit in game then log off to play 7 days to die or Mine Craft.

I am ok with how things are with chat because I can manually disable the channel’s.

If you want your kid learning and repeating racial slurs they learned from Trade this is a great approach!

lol “became an adult” profanity is for babies, apparently

Maybe you should try downloading the addons that clean up the chat for you before waiting for Blizzard to do something that already has a public free and useful option for this
