Aren't ARTIFACT items supposed to have red name?

Hmm, iddn’t ARTIFACT items (the ones unavailable in game), have RED names in vanilla? Or that was just a rumor?

I think they were beige tbh lol. Kinda like the ones in legion.

I’m pretty sure they where red, I remember seeing them on sites like allakazam. The color was changed to beige in Legion when that rarity type became available to players.

But its something you will never see in the Classic WoW so they probably won’t even bother changing that back.

It was already that golden in WotLK, was same as heirlooms.

So I did some digging into my old client mpq’s. Something I already knew was that item rarity was split up into number id’s in the item.dbc file.

ID Color Quality
0 Grey Poor
1 White Common
2 Green Uncommon
3 Blue Rare
4 Purple Epic
5 Orange Legendary
6 Red Artifact

But it turns out in Wrath of the Lich King they added a new rarity for heirlooms.

0 Grey Poor

2 Green Uncommon
3 Blue Rare
4 Purple Epic
5 Orange Legendary
6 Red Artifact
7 Gold Bind to Account

But I don’t know which rarity the new artifacts in Legion used since I can’t open Blizzards new CASC file system.

My guess is from WoWhead it shared the same quality as the old artifacts from Classic WoW but the color was changed to beige sometime during the Legion alpha/beta. They also changed the color of heirlooms to cyan in patch 7.0.3 as stated here.

I recall seeing Frostmourne on some early beta build, it was gold.

Plus, the warglaives of azzinoth were gold for sure. And, when trying to mail a heirloom to someone else, it would throw “Artifacts can only be mailed to your characters”.
