I’m confused as to how arenas matchmaking really works. I’ve heard it’s just based on MMR and spec (dps/healer) but I suspect there’s more to it.
Now I’m admittedly not very good, relatively speaking, at arms warrior but the reason why I ask is because right when I got my full honor (blue) pvp set I started doing arenas. I was winning most of my games, some even 6-0 until about 1000-1100 ranking. After grinding out full conquest (purple) gear I went back into arenas and immediately started losing 90% of the games and went down to about 500 rating. Over the past few days I’ve climbed back up to 700, slowly, painfully. But I can’t help but think wtf why is it so much harder with better gear?! It should be EASIER, right? The algorithm must be taking gear into account, as well as mmr.
Also, I’ve found numerous times I’ve played the exact same people back to back. How TF is this literally possible with millions of prolly playing wow? The algorithm must also be taking geographical location data into account as well. Is there any way to opt out of that or change your location (other than a vpn)?

As far as I know there’s no reason why Conquest gear would make you weaker but I think we went most of BFA without noticing that having socketed gear made us weaker.

You’ve queued 50 rounds of SS aka 8-9 games
Considering you have 0 other rated games made I’m assuming you grinded your gear slowlyyyyy in random bgs and the weekly quests etc?
So you played those original games in blue gear 2 months ago?
Two things have happened since then. Everyone else and their mom has full conquest as well + a large amount of the playerbase has unsubbed as they always do
You also haven’t converted a single piece of gear to tier when you have access to 4 set right now

Here’s me thinking that upgrading conquest gear only affects pve. Apparently you can upgrade to tier?
The game is just terrible at telling you things. It was really bad in SL and it’s even worse in DF.
For example: I never heard of the catalyst ingame. And if not by pure luck youtube showed me a video about it, I wouldn’t have known until next expansion.

The catalyst has nothing to do with upgrading the ilvl of conq gear.
You are correct in thinking upgrading conq gear only increases it’s over ilvl. Converting conq pieces to tier via the catalyst maintains their pvp ilvl scaling attribute but changes them to the tier piece equivalent.
