That’s exactly what an RPG is supposed to be. The players are supposed to have lots of choices, to the point where they collaborate on creating the story instead of having it simply revealed to them.

Yes, the game can have a structure and probably an over-arching storyline outside of the player’s sight. However, a true RPG gives agency to the players and allows them to make choices that influence the story direction and the order in which it’s experienced. WoW no longer does this, you’re pretty much stuck on a static story that plays out for you. You have almost no impact on the storyline other than watching it unfold.
The current game’s story is completely not RPG-like. In fact, current WoW is much more of an action-adventure game than an RPG.
