I really don’t think this is going to be a large factor like you think it is. You put a lot of emphasis on how great sod abilities are but the numbers just show that isn’t a big selling point to sod

I mean less than 1% of the base played som, and most people do not consider sod actual classic fresh. It’s its own category.
There honestly isn’t a better time and I might say they are required to do so or lose people permanently

Most people don’t know how to have fun in classic wow. If you’re playing classic for raids you really would be better off with a different game. I mean look at sod, people just raidlog. There no fun drama or rivalries or anything. They removed all of that and called it a chore. It’s just as much a raidlog game for chronic raid loggers as vanilla or retail or literally any other xpac because that’s all they want to be involved in

Yeah most people who like SoD look back on Classic and say things like Fury was the only viable DPS and that Hybrids as a class weren’t viable when they fail to mention that ALL classes are viable. Then they’ll go “yeah well I can’t play my meme spec in raids!” as if raiding is the only thing that matters. They want to view the game through a retail lens in a version where classes were so much more than individual specs.
They really just want retail at the end of the day and are better off playing it.

Yeah this is why I tell them I think they would enjoy another game better. In classic you play a class and the class has differing roles depending on what you are doing. And I don’t mean that offensively I mean that wholeheartedly.
Yep this is why I suggest trying other games because in order to have fun in classic you can’t play it like you do retail it does not work that way hence being offline 6 days a week

I don’t play retail and have 0 interest in it but the biggest problem with classic imo is that after a certain point(usually between MC and BWL) raiding is the only thing to do in the endgame unless you’re a rogue ganking in the opposite faction’s city or hanging out Blackrock Mountain or something. Yes SOD has largely become raid-logging like OG classic and that’s a bad thing as it kills the game. I’ll be honest I thought about quitting in recent weeks but since they’re bringing Blood Moon back next phase PvP is probably gonna pop off. Yes I know all the crappy 300-500 coin groups thought that event was garbarge, but to me it easily the most fun thing in SOD before they killed it off for the rather stale BRM PvP event.
World bosses remain an extremely high amount of rivalry drama/wpvp/social dynamics till basically the end of the game. SOD actually had removed this dynamic
You also have people ranking at all phases of the game and ranking culture is a huge part of any real server ecosystem. SODs level brackets disturbed this dynamic in some hard to notice ways
Pre-layer stacking you would have things like ungoro and lotus mafia which also fueled server rivalries and economic wpvp
BRM is generally a guild v guild dynamic every raid night even though boons negated the inpact as much.
I’m glad to hear they’re bringing blood moon back as I know it was pretty popular. I myself didn’t like it as to me it was essentially just a low mental workload tab target button smasher and prefer more objective based events but perhaps that will bring some life back
The only thing is once people are rank 14 and buy their token items after 3 events I could see it being dead again

I dunno. Numbers on a seasonal servers are skewed due to the short term nature of it. It also doesn’t help when they pause the game mid leveling process multiple times and drive away a large chunk of people, not all of which come back. I’m not suggesting that them missing said sod abilities means they’ll instantly quit and go back to sod either. I guess I’m wondering what the preference will end up being, classic era fresh, or classic +.
