Maybe all of those complaining about premades can make games just for fun like they claim they want.
Premades can win trade and everyone is happy.
Will layering be turned back on for AQ or you guys just going to shard the pvp away?
So does the barbershop, transmog, pet battles… you see where this is going.
Its completely inauthentic.
" Development of Classic
xDlate : Did you want to change anything during the Classic development?
Ion Hazzikostas : We look at things and think “we could do that so much better now,” but at some point it’s dangerous to start substituting our modern judgments for how things were back then because we’re changing the experience and our mission really is to recreate something that has been lost to the sands of time. Otherwise, it’s a piece of gaming history. It’s the origin of World of Warcraft’s story, and some of us said internally joking “it belongs to a museum.” We wanted to create that thing, we wanted to memorialize and immortalize it, and we can’t accomplish that by changing it."
Understand that the people in charge don’t care about anything but revenues. They do not care about this games “spirit”. Just the active subscribers.
Jfat doesn’t want Vanilla he’s made that clear in multiple threads, heck he doesn’t even want TBC to have no changes.
You know what’s also inauthentic? The level of min-maxing gaming the system and finding what would have been bugs in 1.12 if discovered then (see: Diamond Flask) and pretending that it’s fine because “it was in vanilla” even though nobody actually knew/tried to game it.
That doesn’t make it inauthentic. The game is what is being recreated, not the player base and its practices.
Ya, the company can’t control the player base but they can control the development.
Good reach though, maybe a few more inches next time!
Pretty sure this wargame feature is just so the player run classic pvp tournaments can happen easier.
You do realize this is not even remotely related to warmode, right? This has the same level of impact that these scrolly social media-esque forums have, rather than the original proper forums from vanilla (even less so, as the old forums were actually moderated and were a source of good communication and searchable information. This change will have LESS than an impact a change of forum had)
I meant Wargames. sp error. But great dive into my error!
No worries, but I have zero doubt with the mentality of many on the forum that there are those who will see the word and not read further before thinking such a thing.
But my point stands: this will have zero impact on the actual game, if players bother with it at all.
At least he’s over here doing his low speed smug troll comments rather than fangirling over in retail like normal.
Oh man the carebears don’t like the truth around here. At this point it’s Classic+ guys. Accept it.
retail flag bomb squad activate!
Can we have wargames in retail.
Uhoh, the MVP seems to have used his super duper report ability to hide your post.
Precisely. This has no impact on anyone’s vanilla experience whatsoever. It has basically 0 chance of impacting the PvP meta and if people really feel it hurts their experience they don’t have to participate. Acceptable changes are extremely rare. This is one of them.
It may depend on what “spirit” they’re referring to, but what was and wasn’t vanilla is pretty cut and dry. The only room for argument is any particular state of vanilla between patches 1.1 and 1.12. If it didn’t exist somewhere in there then it isn’t vanilla and is not a part of the environment in which we experienced vanilla.
Recreating the vanilla experience means Blizzard gives us the environment in which we experienced it. That’s it. That’s all that can be expected and that’s all that should be given. Whatever has happened to individuals and the meta is beyond anyone’s control and should not be accounted for.
#nochanges
That said, war games have no impact on anyone’s vanilla environment. They’re entirely self contained from the vanilla environment and optional. There’s no rewards, no impact on one’s character. They are purely optional and for fun. Therefore war games are a perfectly acceptable addition.
Dunno, in a way it is kind of a bleedover of retail tech, that is actually in the spirit of vanilla kinda, vanilla before 1.12.
Back before crossrealm battlegrounds, when BG queues, even WSG, where easier to work with, You could fairly easily challenge an opposing factions guild to a BG match. Probably not something all realms had going on, but some did.
You just had to co-ordinate, outside game, in like ICQ or MSN or AIM etc
and queue for the right BG number.
After crossrealm it became near impossible, especially for AV due to it not being group queue able.
So the mechanic is totally different, but the ability is similar.
Aside from being able to have spectators, and the same faction thing.
And if i understand right, there is no honor or rep involved, just simply hey my group challenges your group to this BG?
Patch 1.5
They were, we simply did not need an official mechanic.
There was no crossrealm, you simply messaged the guild master of what ever guild you wanted to challenge to a BG over an instant messenger or irc etc, and then you all queued the same BG number.
On my realm, for a time, they had their own unofficial ladders.
Anyways i dont think they ran out and made a change, just a piece of the retail code that got left in, probably on oversight.
Doubtful
- BG’s all by themselves already impacted WPVP, just like they did in vanilla.
- I dont foresee wargames getting a ton of use over all.
Most people probably want rewards.
Frankly considering how devastating the changes have been so far- I’d consider this to be Classic-.
Wargames are a great addition, thank you.
I’m all about leaving vanilla as is in order to preserve the vanilla experience. But how in the holy tauren pie would this ever impact your vanilla experience in any way?
