Agreed, I definitely had enough tools to work with, just didn’t find a system that worked that time. I didn’t have anything from my dps that would help aside from maybe darkness which would be minor. But between two paladins there were plenty of answers. Hopefully I can get an AD key this week and redeem myself.
Pally has decent threat gen. Better than dh, not as good as war.
Why dont you just apply the 300k 4 target cleave to some higher keys? Cause thats way higher than most dps classes.
Maybe I’m too used to comparing to warrior tanks post thunderclap buff then.
It’s not that threat is TOO much of an issue, especially these days since I run T3 Infinite Stars, but the last two patches there was a period where I’d be tanking (non-skittish week) and a mythic geared dps would pop some huge AoE and I’d be scrambling to keep up. And I never saw the other (warrior) tank in the guild have an issue.
I asked around and most of the advice I got was that I shouldn’t stack so much mitigation, so I swapped to a dps essense and trinkets. Which helped a bit, but doesn’t feel good.
I’ve shied away from trying a wings/AM build this season. Enjoyed it a bit in S2. I should try it again just to be able to compare - been trying to stack IVan’s, but the proc’ness and iconically theme of wings was fun for me.
I will say that Lucid does really shore up some SotR drop offs, though.
That was with triple bulwark. I haven’t run a single key with this build since hitting 475 so idk what to expect, but sera/wings/4 target shield on the dummies puts me at 32% DR from mastery and 85% chance to block with HS, 20% DR with just wings and shield. I’m going to give full secondaries a shot.
That’s only the burst. Settles at 100k after and it shouldn’t be better than DPS classes. I watched a Demo lock maintaining 300k.
Yea… you’re doing it wrong… also if you’re referring to this week and your dumb mage does that in first 2 seconds on a skittish week then he deserves his death.
prot paladin is great on grevious yeah, they can also spellward or bubble or prevent people from actually dying at any time
Spellward or bubble once every 5 minutes, a completely overblown advantage.
And those heal bombs from HOTP on grievous weeks will be spent on yourself, since you’ll fold over like a wet napkin once your SOTR is down.
Lay on hands is great for mechanics where someone gets mind controlled but comes out of MC at like 10% hp or something too
10% hp if you are lucky. Overkilled by hundreds of thousands by TD if you are not. I need to stop attacking MC people with my VDH…
Maybe not utility wise but healing wise, vengeance is actually my favorite tank to play due to the shear amount of self healing and kiting I can pull off with him. I tanked a couple dungeons these season as guardian and hated it because lack of self healing
Once again stop thinking of self-healing in isolation. The damage intake of a VDH will be much higher than an equivalent (in terms of gear and skill) bear, at least versus physical damage. If self-healing is all that mattered in tanking then no one would bother with prot warrior in higher M+ keys.
Anyways bear self-healing isn’t that bad, if you remember that most of the self-healing does not come from frenzied regen. For example ysera’s gift adds up to a lot of healing over time at high health pools, and earthwarden talent counts as an absorb against auto attacks. In some cases you can make some distance from targets with sprints/typhoon/etc. and heal yourself with regrowth/swiftmend/rejuv/etc. A bear is just fine in most kiting situations relative to something horrible like BDK.
Sadly the biggest challenge in playing a bear is staying awake, even at high haste levels.
Add up the total healing of you and the healer when on a vdh or bdk and compare it to any other tank with the same healer. Healing more isn’t really an advantage since first you had to take the damage and something like a warrior would have just taken less in the first place.
