I have no problem running +10’s as a Holy Priest. I can’t speak to higher keys than that.
Hey OP, I have quite a bit of experience on all healing classes.
If you want to know if Priest is viable for M+ the answer is: Yes as long as you don’t intend to push super high keys. Now, even mid and low keys there’s still a significant and very noticeable difference between Priests and the meta specs (Druids, Pallys, Monks) and even Shaman is imo noticeable better than Priest for most M+ situations.
Here are some reasons why:
- Low impact utility tools for M+ (specially for Holy).
- Poor AOE damage and no GCD efficient damage spells (Druids can just sunfire the whole pack or Pallys can drop a consecration for very descent damage with a single GCD).
- Poor defensive CDs.
- Poor healing throughput in 5-mans - Holy has “ok” throughput but still behind the meta healers. Disc has significantly lower throughput, you can argue that it can be compensated with damage prevention, and to a degree that’s true with tools like Barrier and Rapture, but then we need to count those as essential throughput tools rather than utility (other healers have the throughput AND the utility).
My advise is still that you play what you enjoy, I ran lots of M+ as Priest in S1 and S2 and it’s doable and still feels ok for keys that are about 5 levels above the weekly cap, once you start going over that mark it starts feeling a bit rough and like your class is holding you back a bit.
We actually do relatively well in m+. Compared to my priest however, I can definitely feel the difference between the two classes.
Yes. You rely way more on your group to work around your shortcomings (long cast times, no tank personal, no poison/enrage dispel, terrible tank healing) which makes it hard to even get into PUGS because you have to have a group built around you.
Not only that, they just feel bad to play. They’re just too slow, and m+ is about speed. Imo Hpriest and Rsham are neck and neck for the worst feeling heal specs in key groups of all levels.
