I quite like the Mechagon story. It made sense and felt very serious to me. Especially reading the comic about it, it made me respect King Mechagon and the story itself.

I’d argue they currently treat gnomes and mechagnomes better in the story than night elves.

Gnomes:

  • Losing Gnomeregan didn’t slow them down much
  • Their allied race joined the Alliance
  • Rarely if ever lose major characters
  • Were largely present during the Mechagon storyline
  • Mekkatorque was a raid boss but survived and was revived by mechagnome science

Night elves:

  • Lost Teldrassil and a fair bit of their population, whose souls were sent to spend eternity in a stygian nightmare
  • Their allied race joined the Horde
  • Have major characters corrupted and/or killed off constantly; not too long ago had to have one of their leaders trade places with Ysera in the afterlife after she was killed from something that can be traced back to the former’s hubris
  • Took a backseat to humans during the Nazjatar storyline
  • Writers had no idea what to do with Tyrande in BfA and SL, giving her a powerup that did next to nothing against Nathanos, then having it unable to pierce Sylvanas’ plot armor and forcing her to choose forgiveness over vengeance as part of a hamfisted Aesop

What are some good Gnome titles? Do any races have “race specific” titles?

I’ve always loved doing quests for goblins and gnomes, but I haven’t really played either one. The funny dialog about how their crazy inventions with whacky names will have horrible side effects always gets me. Male goblins have my favorite accent - it’s so fitting.

Well, we haven’t seen a Gnome or a Goblin in a fully rendered CGI like the expansion launch videos, so yeah…Blizzard clearly treats them as a joke and doesn’t take them seriously. We can also tell by the fact the two races have leaders with the only leader class that’s not playable: Tinker, that was also in WC3 and HoTS.
