Are Engorged Mites broken? (They're hittable by ranged only)

In ZM, the Engorged Mites sit up in the air and rain down death on any players w/ limited ranged attacks (i.e., my ret paladin and warrior). My warlock pet isn’t able to get to them, either. Even after running away from them – which generally in the game will cause a flying mob to land to attack – they stay in the air.

This was especially frustrating to my warrior today since I’d just started a “defend the Jiro” quest, so I was stuck in the area, unable to do much besides my lame little ranged attacks.

Is this intended?

Have you tried running out of range of their spell? They usually descend towards the ground while chasing.

Yes, I’ve tried this several times, and they insist on staying in the air, so melee attacks can’t reach them. This was especially frustrating today, since after running away to try to force them to come down, I nearly got too far away from the Jiro I was supposed to be protecting.
