Are current professions not feeling as fun to do anymore?

For atleast me the past couple expansions around BFA, I have had less of an incentive to deal with my professions. I am thinking something needs to be done to them to make them seem more apealing while not needing so many different ones. I know not everyone likes Crafting and not everyone likes gathering.

My Idea, Solution whatever youd want to call it is Combine Blacksmith, Jewelcrafting and Engineerings into a single crafting Profession, Combine Alchemy and Inscription to me they feel weird seperate, and Combine leatherworking with Skinning those 2 also feel weird seperate from each other. I would also suggest to add JUST the disenchanting part of enchating to them but have it where it gave back least a portion of the mats used on crafted items where the non crafted items Like lets say a LW gets a Leather drops they would get some skins from disenchating it or BS would get some Ore from Plate.

IF this would be done the Profession specifc bags would need to get a redo as well by maybe having them at the very least classified as a Reagent Bag IF not a General Bag. The current profession trainers would most likely also need an update IF not removed.

I could definitely get behind some of the professions being fused together. They did that already with the old secondary profession for First Aid and Tailoring. It made sense then, and I could see it making sense going forward too. The trouble with it would be compressing the sheer quantity of content. A main and secondary profession are kind of easy to throw together, but two main professions being fused would get messy.

This could also negatively impact AH economy, and create monopolies around attaining certain crafted items.

I see your point but i feel any “monopolies” that may come from it would be minimal and mainly the new players would be buying up ths tuff till they realized what comes from professions and what dont. PLus, if the professions are fuesd how i suggested they could make where the 2 remaining Gahering professions let could be made a Secondary Profession but have it where we could only select one of them and the new players realize they would only need like 3-4 Charectors (just depending how they would want to combine the crafters (example BS/JC/Eng w/Enchanting, Tailor w/Enchanting and LW w/Enchanting Alc/Ins w/Enchating OR LW w/Alc/Ins)).

IF someone were to go wtih the 3 or 4 charector method I feel could be beneficial to them in the long run since in time they could get the patterns they want even if it’s just the ones from whatever the current expansion is. The dropped crafting patterns might take some time to update properly. I guess most of the issues i see by doing this are more short term then long term issues. Granted any mounts, Gear or toys that require a specific Profession would also need to be updated, just I think if had a small team at first to fuse the professions together and deal with any Mounts, Toys or gear that requried an older profession to work with the newer ones id be fine if it took a couple expansions to work it out.

I don’t see how combining professions does anything other than create a pile of work for the devs. Like what for? What would you get out of this? What’s the point of that?

Edit: also you’ve already made this topic previously. Kindly do not make repeat posts.

Someone who did professions religiously in like BFA onward.. I get the thing they wanted to do but it feels like they used raid progression and keys mentality to give a ‘‘pillar’’ of game though no real consideration on if it feels fun.

They saw their idea of work orders kinda fall flat and lots of people confused still to this day about it. So they double down and then give NPC orders. For what?

I would have loved to craft things and put them on the AH. What social benefit and fun is there is being left behind cause gold goblins and people who have all the time in the world to invest in this game, fighting over scraps, just so someone MIGHT accept you as the crafter for the item they want.

Then the nodes in the talents for professions started off with lots of ‘‘traps’’ and no reset for a long time… everything felt pointlessly spread out instead of condensed.

Some system or idea like work orders should have never been a thing for professions and just be a way for people to get an item. Letting us craft MORE and not LESS that can be put on the AH.

No gold to be made for most crafters. Underselling is HUGE and rampant.

Enchanting feels pointless to even do unless you are doing it for a guild which I don’t have one to even get a role like that. Engineering too and alchemy when it comes to orders. It’s’ really just baffling how devs looked at it and thought ‘‘yeah this is gonna be fun!”

Current professions are not fun, fluid or logical for players that adhere to the current EULA.

They appeal to RMT, botters and exploiters.

Since DF profession rework it has been a trainwreck and that is the truth.

I know your schtick is criticising the post-DF profession system in absolutely every thread you can, and you’re absolutely entitled to dislike the current system, but I am none of those things, so this is quite a rude comment to make. They don’t appeal to you, and that’s fine, you can leave it at that. You would not like it if I posted some snotty comment insulting people who didn’t like the new professions.

The truth is the truth because right now RMT is what fuels the current profession system. In fact people have valid fears around housing decor circling around that same drain.

This post is not 100% like the others. Has some similar aspects sure but not 100% the same. As for what does combining do sides make work for devs on the short term, in long term would allow them not need to make so many patterns if professions like eng., bs, and jc were to become 1 cause the patterns they would give us could feel more meaningful when we craft them. Plus, then there could be more useful gear to craft for people lvling or for endgame.

Plus if LW & skinning were combined to make it more like tailoring the crafted mail and leather patterns could be made into different profession which potentially be more helpful for leather and mail classes.

I am missing something with your explanation.

Combining professions would only reduce the total workload and number of recipes if that allows Blizzard to reduce duplication. How much duplication exists across BS, JC, and Eng? How much duplication exists between Tailoring and LW beyond slots? How much duplication exists between Alc and Insc?

Then, right after arguing for combining professions, you say that Blizzard can create a NEW profession for the mail and LW patterns.

I missed your argument completely.
