To be more accurate: Night Elves are a separate group of “Trolls” that further evolved due to the Well of Eternity. Technically all Trolls evolved to where they are (which are various points along the line…) due to their proximity to the Well of Eternity. Night Elves just had more time in the oven, so to speak, to be able to cook properly.
To say Night Elves descended from Trolls would mean that Trolls had Night Elven babies. But the Dark Trolls themselves became Night Elves, not through descendance, but by physically changing themselves.

Belves weren’t tainted by the well. The well was transformative, but was just a source of power. Which Belves and Helves kept their strength through.
Only a small amount of Belves fed off fel. And most of them became the Felblood.
Most Blood Elves fed off mana from creatures like mana wyrms. But used fel to power their city. Which the radiation from that changed their eyes to green.

I actually love this about Blood Elves. They aren’t pure and free of wrongdoing like other races. They are morally grey and walk fine lines between right and wrong. They’re flawed to the bone, and so is their society, and I find that super cool.

As I understand it and I don’t get heavy into the lore but VE’s became a thing right around BfA when some BE dude was goofing off experimenting with the void and he was successful. Thing is, BEs said no to the void because if it comes close to the sunwell, it’ll explode or something so that BE dude who was messing with the void became outcast as did all the other BEs who joined him and that’s how VEs came to be.
The void did change them because they were purple at first. Same body type with different colouring and racials.
I got this from playing the game. I have yet to read the books, probably never will and I don’t go deep into the lore so you’re going to get different answers from all kinds of people.
That’s my answer. I try to keep this simple. Hope it helped.
I also like that BEs are horde because of what you said but also because BEs are very pretty monsters.
I think the reason you don’t see scars on BEs is because of the physical prowess in fighting, they rarely if ever get a scratch but when they do get hit, it’s usually fatal.
I remember that cine when Sylvanas is fighting Saurfang and he nicks her eye.
Her reaction was very well displayed in that cine.
