Are Beta Invites Over?

you shouldn’t be subbing for a chance to get a beta invite. It didn’t even take me 5 seconds of deliberation after I found out that beta invites were to sub only to decide not to sub and instead go with the other plan for that bit of money.

May not bother with coming back for 8.2 out of spite as well and stick with FFXIV until classic launches. Didn’t like the BfA sub required plan from inception since they’re such different games and “quality testers” excuse was a rather weak cover up for them wanting people gambling their 15$ for next few months.

Nope… we fully agree. Nothing was misrepresented. Blizzard stated the criteria for being invited… and an active sub was one. No where did they say “Your chances of getting into BETA are XX%… or subscribing will increase you chances.”

In fact, there was a post that specifically said NOT to subscribe if the reasoning was to have a chance at beta because it was VERY limited.

yes they did.

not from a single blue, no. there was a recent blue that stated the beta invites were going to slowly drop, as they about have the population they need.

No they never said subscribing would increase chances… they said it was required.

And I am sure there is a comment from Blizzard that said something to the effect of Yes, a subscription is required, but if a person was going to renew their sub just for that chancce at a very minuted beta… he would not recommend that.

ill make this easy, so we dont clog up the topic;
blizz tells people that sub required to get beta invite> people sub> people get angry> blizz tells people tough luck and to get over it> more anger.

gambling is taking a chance at something and maybe winning. gambling is not being told you have a chance and then being told that you had NO chance, once they had your money.

OK, found it… BOOM!

This.

I don’t deny it feels nice when your subscribed YT celebrity namedrops you. I’ve only had that happen to me twice. It is a treat, but this happened after many years of not giving any form of donation. It actually feels more rewarding that way, as if the celebrity in question actually acknowledged your followership genuinely.

I asked a personal favor of a LONG-TIME friend to help me get AOTC last year. This was someone I knew since Cata or MoP. He wanted me to subscribe to his Twitch so I can “win a chance” to earn a raid slot to get the ach in his raiding guild. It made me sick, and it took a lot of what I had not to outright quarrel with him because he didn’t want to do me a relatively simple favor by “hooking me up”.

He was some 10 years(?) younger than me, a Millennial on the wee side, and that meant by default he had fallen into the trap. It’s sad that kind of thinking is everywhere, but it’s what I’ve come to expect from the natural erosion of friendship in WoW. It’s not how I’ve treated people: when I farmed Alani in MoP, I hooked all my friends up.

Back in Vanilla, a fellow warlock gave me a small donation of gold just so I can help pay for my felsteed mount. I didn’t beg him for it, but he saw that I was level 43 or 46(I think?) and I still didn’t have it yet(I may have been halfway to 70 G total and he probably donated 25 or something). He didn’t say, “Follow me on Twitch,” because there wasn’t such a thing back in 2006. In RL I was 20 years old then, which qualifies me as a Millennial, but even back then there was no streaming.

I rambled on some. More reproof that Classic =/= Vanilla, simply because of these stories and how the older Millennials got by in the world at the time.

Maybe they will all unsub because they think invites are done giving us a better chance. They said they could invite more in the future.

Do casinos go to court for taking your money in blackjack?

Casinos dont have a sign outside warning you that you are likely to lose either.

I would imagine the core frustration stems from the evolution of blizzard. Look back to the early 2000’s they had a mission of simply making good games.
The industry has grown and there is far more competition for revenue. Companies that want to survive will do what they have to do.

Blizz also has the courtesy of knowing no matter what they do this summer people will still come back for classic and probably even future retail expainsions. (Should they fix their shortcomings discovered by making BFA feel as if it has the same flow of gameplay as a mobile game)

I certainly have no objection with that happening :stuck_out_tongue: There are two more stress tests… hopefully the one stress test invite covers all of them.

But I suspect they will increase the BETA more. They have what they need NOW but as they open more levels… they will want to bring in fresh blood.

Well blizz said they are decreasing beta invites.

That is not completely accurate. Looking at the near future… that is the effect. Right now they have pretty much all the testers they need. But over time that number might (and often does) change. Resulting in more beta waves being sent out.

But with a previous post using the term “Very limited beta”, one can assume they never expect to invite as many as they have in previous betas.

that we’re sending out is rapidly decreasing as we

Meaning they are still going out. Not completely over.

I’m not sure if you’re joking with that last bit but everyone knew that you needed to be subbed to be in the pool of people that invites would be selected from. There was no guarantee that you’d get into the beta, only into the pool of people that could get into beta.

What you’re suggesting is akin to demanding a refund for a raffle ticket because you didn’t win the prize. You can’t win the prize without a ticket, but having a ticket doesn’t guarantee a prize. There’s no obscure lies happening; at best someone misunderstanding or conflating issues.

Yeah, you all go ahead and opt out of the opportunity for Beta >.> more chances for me if they send more out. I honestly do believe more will likely end up being sent out though. The biggest complaint I have seen from content creators is that they would like more people to be present for beta testing. This isn’t saying that Blizzard is gonna bend over for them and let more people in just for that reason. It just means that there is an added reason for doing so if they need more.

I’m 35, I’m technically a millennial.

Stop with this garbage.
