Archive/Library of Karazhan (Torghast 2.0)

Alas, I am not gifted with the touch of art but I do like to theorise and build up ideas. I hope you will offer your feedback, and further ideas. A Torghast 2.0 thread has been existing in one way or the other, but I would like to give it a try too. Thank you. Lochton.

The Archive of Karazhan (WIP) is an idea of creating a hub outside of Shadowlands with a wider spread of selection in adventures, while still staying relevant to current growing content without offering any required rewards, a list of rewards are included in the bottom of the thread.

The general story of the Archive is that Khadgar has decided to have Karazhan restored with specialised help from the Kirin Tor. As Karazhan undergoes a never ending restoration process, a select group of archivists set their eyes on managing the libraries within - which is not an easy task.

You are introduced to this feature as Khadgar decides to reach out with a new quest-line for you. It seems that multiple volumes are missing from the shelves, some more questionable than others, as he and other archivists set out to complete their list, you are as well sent out to complete yours. You are to find 6 books at first (You can find more in connection with achievements, and these titles can be multiple volumes, and applied further), Khadgar himself, will bring in a 7th book, which is to be used to summoned fourth a contained world boss.

This feature will initially open up six (6) instances depending on the random selection of books on a central table, the floor plan would be random generated. You would be able to find four (4) other books in the open world, leaving you with 10 instanced zones of various themes. An adventurer can compile a new volume of a title by collecting pages within the current volume. One book contains 9 “pages” (floors), every 3rd floor will have a boss type NPC. A title should cap at 10 volumes in total, and you should be able to construct 3-5 volumes in one week. These volumes do NOT disappear when the books are rotated.

The titles (themes) of the books are based on topics within the knowledge of the world we call home, some will be based on classes, and others, on the history of our world (like the old MoP scenario system). It is a method of bringing events lost in external books, into the game, let players experience them.

A List of few books (theme ideas):

  • Cooking with a Snap
A book about conjured food and refreshments (The adventurer would be descending into a world of weirdly skewered arcane constructs of food and drinks. Certain drinks and food can offer empowerment in this title).

  • Runecarving for Rookies
A book about the use of runes in constructing of golems and weapons (The adventurer would have to fight through runeforged fiends, golems, and weapons. Certain runes can offer empowerment in this title).

  • Book of Demons
A book of various named and unnamed demons that we have experienced through the story of Azeroth (The Adventurer would have to fight through waves of demons, taking down known demons from our history).

  • The War of the Satyr
A book about the War of the Satyr and its history (The adventurer will dive into this story of Azeroth and experience sections of this event. These books may demand more volumes).

  • A Tinker’s Handbook
A book about the basic tools and needs for the mighty Tinker to run a successful enterprise (The adventurer in question is going to experience that not everything in the handbook is as safe as sold, as they are to dig through pages of mechanical foes and traps).

  • The Pandaren Revolution
A book about the Pandaren and their glorious revolution against their suppressors, the Mogu (The adventurer will experience and join in the story of this event)

  • Under thee titles, you could implement various functions of riddles and puzzle games in connection.

Empowerment System:
We have been used to empower ourselves through each run of Torghast, later on, we would have an external version for permanent empowerments, which should still remain but instead, there will be a larger selection to build up, which does not reset - this would leave each book to be able to offer empowerment based on its content.

Faction and Rewards:
It should be operating on the renown system but the currency needed, is to be found within the titles available each week. There is not meant to be any restrictions for the currency except for how much you may earn pr. week, which is equal to the same amount of pages you collect pr. title pr. week for a new volume.

The Faction, who’s name is still brewing in my head, but for now, “The Archivists”, is a faction with a renown level of 50 (50x2500) working with Khadgar. All their rewards will be account bound, just like their currency, and its weekly limit.

Now, I do not have any direct ranking in mind just yet, but rewards would be something like following, it would be some specific class, or profession rewards too:

  • "Archivists’ Hearthstone (Toy)": Get swept away in a flurry of parchment to your bound destination.
  • "Loyal Scribe (Pet)": Recruit a loyal scribe to depict your adventures. This loyal servant can offer access to your bank (1h cooldown), as well as carry your mail (1h cooldown).
  • "A Page in the Wind (Toy)": Unlock all available flight paths on this character.
  • "Archivists Attire (Cosmetic)": An item set based upon the theme of enchanted tomes and history.
  • "Archivists’ tools (Cosmetic)": A selection of library themed weaponry.
  • "The Librarian (Title)": You have earned the title, “…the Librarian” (With the ability to buy, “Librarian…” title as well.
  • "Scroll of Transportation (Mount)": The damn archivist tricked you. This is indeed a magical scroll, but it doesn’t teleport you, instead, you climb up on it, flying around on an oversized scroll of parchment.
  • "A good seat (Toy)": When reading, you ought to be will prepared. This toy is a good randomly generated chair (Active for 15 minutes, cooldown for 15 minutes).
  • "Suspicious Spotlight (Pet)": Companion which is a light, can be commanded by its owner to shine on them, or can be given free will, letting it shine on anyone nearby.

Specific rewards:

  • "Book of Summoning (Warlock - Glyph)": Turn your ritual of summoning into an oversized book.
  • "Book of Portals (Mage - Glyph): Animation unlock, letting the mage stand with a tome as they opens up a portal.
  • "Tome of Portals (Inscription - Toy)": Drop down a book and tear open a doorway to a destination of your selection (Wormhole generator, but for scribes).
  • "Guardians of History (Paladin - Multiple Glyphs)": Turn your Guardian of Ancient Kings into that of a lost heroic person (Tirion, Uther, Varian, Rhonin, Anasterian, etc).
  • "Elemental Tome of Control (Mage - Toy)": Change your elemental’s shape, size, or element (Ice, Storm, Arcane).
  • "The Art of Defense (Warrior - Glyph)": Turn your Shield Wall into a Book Wall (Just don’t let the archivists see that you are using their dear tomes for defense!)
-“Vanishing Tome (Rogue - Glyph)”: Replace Vanish with Vanishing Tome. The Rogue will disappear in a storm of papers, leaving behind a small black tome.
  • "Pages of Cold (Hunter - Glyph)": Turn your Freezing Trap into Freezing Tomes.
  • "Scrolls For Your Interest:… (Various selection of Profession scrolls - Cosmetics):" Unlock old cosmetic items.

Achievements

  • "The Student (Title)" - Complete 10 unique titles, earn the title, “…the Student”.

I appreciate ideas that bring in side content that could eventually be added onto as patches and/or expansions come and go. As it stands the primary focus of each patch and expansion that I’ve seen is - get geared, do raids/mythics or if you’re a PvPer get ratings. There’s very little types of content that are just for the fun of it that you can pick up and put down without the worry of being left behind.

I support ideas like this that bring back that spark of exploration where you can really just look around and discover things.
