Archaeology has been a dead profession since BFA. However, to aquire a very nice artifact weapon appearance, one must complete eight rare Archaeology quests with a two week reset. This means it would take 16 weeks and approx. 4 to 16 hours of Archaeology content to get the appearance.
I was not even aware this appearance existed until I noticed it on Wowhead. The time gate and commitment for this appearance, and the use of Archaeology, a dead profession, seems ridiculous.
I’m not asking Blizzard to just give us the appearance; however, Legion Remix would be a perfect opportunity to make it available via bronze or a Remix specific achievement; but if Blizzard could at least remove the two week time gate and make it a daily, or make the quests random so alts could potentially complete different ones every two weeks, hence speeding up the processes.
At the end of the day, I’m sure there’s a better way to make this appearance available without taking anything away from those who’ve earned it in the past. 16 weeks just seems crazy, and only necessary given the use of Archaeology as it plays today. Back when Legion first came out and maybe one or two expansions after, it makes sense to keep the appearance as is, but now players are having to go back four expansions and learn a profession that’s been dead since 2020.
If an improvement is not already in the works, hopefully a Blue will see this and forward it to the appropriate group for consideration.
I did half of that number, but I kinda forgot about doing it once Legion was over, and I got the Ghost Moose.
At the very least, just make it we can farm the archeology in one day rather then every two weeks, I am just going to forget about it again if it stays that way.
They should just split archaeology into an expansion-based thing like they did with the other professions, it would give them much more freedom to implement new ideas
As a player that is super casual (as in I don’t do dungeons/raids/PvP) I happen to LOVE all the content that many find boring. Pet Battles, I do at least 10 daily. Archaeology, I spend a few hours every Sunday doing it. Taking every single one of my alts through holiday events, yep that’s me. Trying to make sure I get evdry single quest done in every area (even if it means I wait an xpac or 2 to get the dungeon quests done). Point being, dont get rid of all the casual solo content!
My main gripe with archaeology is how it’s a 900 level skill, i still don’t understand why they didn’t bother to split it up like the rest of secondary professions
