Arcanist Thalyssra says alliance treated her people poorly

When was this exactly? I’m doing the questline of gathering of the elves and Thalyssra insists she had no choice but to join the horde after specifically noting treatment done to them by the Kaldorei.

This is a problem for me that the Nightborne weren’t made a neutral race. It was alliance too that helped her liberate Suramar and save her people. So for her to say she was treated this way is simply not true.

The lore is whatever the writers see fit, lol.

And all that really happened, was Tyrande saying a few choice words to the Nightborne since they were mimicking the Blood Elves in terms of society.

“Well help you, but…” type stuff.

It’s more of an anti-magic stance the NEs had that drove them into the Horde.

Almost exactly what happened when we recruit the NEs to help Silvermoon, they want them to give up the Sunwell.

She’s a snob and joined the lesser faction to stand tall above them.

Never. Aside from the general disdain Kaldorei have for other elf offshoots because of their addiction to one magical well or another, there was never any mistreatment of any elf race by the Alliance (the purge of Dalaran had nothing to do with the Alliance). The Night Elves can come off a little haughty when talking down to other elves but it’s because they went through it with the Well of Eternity and at this point are just sick and tired of others repeating the same mistakes of the past that they have been warning against for literally 10,000 years.

The Nightborne joining the Horde instead of becoming a neutral race was entirely contrived from a lore perspective, much like the Blood Elves and the Void Elves. Midnight would have been the perfect time to make all elven races neutral but for whatever reason the devs continue to beat the carcass of the very much dead faction divide horse.

That’s not what she says.

It’s in the intro cinematic for Nightborne characters. Mentions how the alliance reluctantly helped but the horde welcomed them.

Tyrande was unnecessarily curt with the Nightborne and because Blizzard is allergic to any sort of nuance, Tyrande being slightly mean to the Nightborne is basically a war crime and so they sided with the Horde because of that, because we needed to have Horde Night elves to balance out the Alliance Thalassian elves that were coming up in BFA.

Really it just boiled down to giving the Horde Night Elves. The Nightborne didn’t officially join the Horde till the Void Elf unlock where Alleria gets too close to the Sunwell and Nether Prince Durzaan tricks everyone into thinking she caused the Sunwell to react, something we later learn from him himself as he says he made the portals to trick everyone and get Alleria and Umbric there to turn them into new Void Ethereals, a process that we cut off halfway through and results in Void Elves instead.

On one hand it makes sense, but now that we KNOW Alleria isn’t a threat, they really shoulda just been neutral.

It was just a way to faction swap two races around without giving either side a reason to complain, other than the High Elf enthusiasts, but they’re NEVER happy.

The Void Elf and Nightborne unlock scenarios are connected, Alleria gets banished just before she goes to the Ghostlands and finds out about Umbric and his also banished researchers.

Not word for word but yes she does say they had no choice but to join the horde noting treatment by the alliance specifically Kaldorei.

Tyrande being Tyrande…

Remember that old line she had about only the goddess denying her anything?

Yeah, that’s still the same same self-righteous holier-than-thou Tyrande.

Ok I found the exact dialogue

“The kaldorei aided my people in our own time of need. Just as I fought alongside their people in defense of Amirdrassil.

However, the kaldorei made it very clear to my people we are not friends. There are many reasons we joined the Horde… the kaldorei being one of them.”

No lies detected here.

If you consider Jaina Proudmoore and the Silver Covenant having nothing to do with the Alliance, sure.

It never happened. The only thing that happened was Tyrande was a bit mean to her. Blizzard wants us to believe that’s enough to commit your entire people to war.

Meanwhile they also want us to believe that an isolationist society would have no problem what-so-ever joining a group of people who destroyed one of their sacred and cultural icons in attempted genocide.

Edit: Alliance champions were there helping Thalyssra every day the Horde champions were. The story inconsistencies are just going to keep compounding in this game.

The purge of Dalaran had everything to do with the Sunreavers betraying the Kirin Tor in favor of their allegiance to the Horde, the only relation the Alliance had to this incident was not being the Horde.

Propaganda. Even Tyrande, who annoyed her, still brought armies to help liberate Suramar. And Tyrande’s great crime? Pointing out that the Nightborne hid behind their barrier while she and Malfurion (who were alive and part of the same civilization at that time) had to fight the Legion without them.

But Tyrande still brought Kal’dorei forces to help liberate Suramar, despite their differences.

Tyrande specifically didn’t blindly trust the Nightborne on first meeting so they immediately joined the opposing faction and went to war against all Alliance as if they were life-long enemies.

Literally. That’s it.

The player contributions were ignored. Tyrande was slightly rude (but still helped) so now we’re forever hostile enemies who will kill each other. Well, story plot points won’t push that, but we’re still on opposite factions who have exclusive territory, so… Yeah.

It was incredibly clear that Blizzard just wanted a reason for the Nightborne to be Horde so they could have the Night Elf model (more or less). In the same way Alliance got Void Elves so we could have the Blood Elf model. At least the Void Elf story didn’t break the suspension of disbelief as hard as Nightborne not being Neutral.

I almost wish Tyrande DID do something horrendous to justify them joining the Horde. At least that’d make sense.

Everyone talks about the Nightborne joining the Horde as being weird yet no one cites the Highmountain Tauren in the same light. Both factions received help from champions on both sides.

The reality is that Legion was meant to end with the Horde getting half-decent allied races while the Alliance got made-up-at-the-last-second garbage like void elves and lightforged draenei. The victim complex shared by most Horde players will never let them admit this, but it’s the truth.

The “neutral” Kirin Tor sent the bell to Darnassus. The Silver Covenant was always antagonistic towards the Sunreavers as well as the Horde.

They probably should have been neutral, but I think they wanted to balance the elves on each side. Alliance got void elves. Horde got Nightborne.

Expanding on my thoughts, MoP was great until the third patch when the whole “Garrosh goes bad so we need to nuke Org” story came up. Which was an excuse to make WoD so Blizzard could milk everyone’s great memories of Outland.

“Hey, remember that first awesome expansion we had which you all loved? What if you could see those lands as they used to be?”

WoD was horrible storywise, but Legion was fantastic. Until BFA when Blizzard decided to emasculate the Horde once again.

What I feel would have been a much better storyline for Garrosh was to keep him as the strong, true Orc style Warchief but have him develop into a better leader as Thrall did, due to the influences of the other members of the Horde. Jain could have been his counter, just as warlike when necessary and there could have been a great rivalry between them with the Alliance tempering her as the Horde tempered Garrosh.

But no, we couldn’t destroy the Thrall-Jaina lovefest. So Garrosh had to go, then Silvanas had to go. For (dumb) reasons no one even understands.
