Yes, he is super disingenous. 606 ilvl weapon, 587 ilvl character, with embellishments and gems and enchants. Yeah… put an equal geared/skilled sunfury next to him and will be blowed out from the water.
I had early access, everyone I have been playing with has the same gear. Did you get your spark of omen? You can have a 606 weapon too. I would be glad to compare our dps together. Let’s see how good your level 10 blood elf mage is
Yes the are. Everyone I know had early access just like me. Itd jot hard to pick up enchanting and give yourself basic enchants and buy a gem. Not to mention we just received a spark of omen which I got my bis weapon with. I’d be glad to compare dps with you. Let’s see what f you have mastered sunfury
I got it, but it cost me 250k to craft it.
But we are not talking about me or you. Not everyone runs with that much money.
What the other dude said that you literally running in a pretty much “end-late” game gear pre-season wise, OBVIOSULY you going to destroy 99% of the people. Just because you have that much gear. I am pretty sure that’s what’s going on. Beating ilvl 560 sunfuries as a 585+ then bragging about it is funny.
Here you can see my level “10” mage here. Feel free to compare yourself.

You know he’s full of crap when he says it’s not hard to pick up enchanting and craft enchants and craft a 606 weapon lmao.
Leveling my mage as tailor/enchanter from 70-80 gave barely enough materials to level the professions to 33 out of 100.
This dude either spent unholy amounts of gold, got mats funneled to him by his guild, or became a chinese farmer in LFG farming groups for significant times to even hit the ability to craft weapons at 606; remember, you need refulgent crystals to even craft the damned weapon, which isn’t dropping from heroics even for disenchanting.
He is not remotely representative of the average player, but they always pretend that the no-lifing they do is a reasonable ask for the average player.
Your average low lv enchant takes 10 whole dusts for a ring enchant. A single green gets you a single dust. You need to disenchant 10 greens for a single ring enchant.
Professions are super grindy and expensive, so they require either funneled resources from your guild or you having an alt army to level up reasonably because the enchanter who can craft the wand cannot get the amount of resources reasonably. You need another alt with the disenchanting specialization leveled instead, ditto for tailoring to increase the efficiency of cloth.
Yeah as I said, I also have a 606 weapon. Cost me 250k gold to craft it. Had around 800k gold from previous expansion. I just see no point going all in on gear that’s going to be relevant for what? 1-2 weeks?
You don’t even necessarily need to play Arcane properly to do decent damage, just go into a pack and Touch of Magi highest health mob and go to town. It has a very low skill floor.
Thanks to all who also shared their experience also regarding the total nerf of the Mage class.
As to the question if it’s “a sKiLl iSsuE?”, lol no, this isn’t Harry Potter. We’re not waving wands and dodging around like some “Souls-like” game. It’s all math. The amount of damage from a spell is determined by what the devs code it to be. From there, it’s talent spec and gear to augment it. It’s not rocket science to press a button to cast a spell, the harder we press it doesn’t make it do more damage. Everyone playing Arcane Mage all these years didn’t suddenly forget how to play or lose some kind of “skill”. No, no, no, the answer is the devs nerfed the spec and others, they even published it, so it’s indisputable, hence, the issue is a NERF issue. Hopefully, they’ll consider the feedback and make changes to remedy the spec, and other classes with similar issues.
After I cast evocation during legion transmog farm, I usually kill every boos in just that one arcane missile cast. Later bosses need one or two arcane blasts. My fastest end boss kills where on arcane mage. It’s literally the best spec for burning down enemies. I don’t think there is better spec. I may be wrong but regardless best spec, but you do something really wrong if you struggle with arcane mage in old content.
If you just “spam” arcane barrage then no wonder you can’t do anything. Arcane barrage has specific condition when you should use it to actually deal proper damage.
Check some guides how to do ration and setup, read the tooltips of passive buffs, and see what they do, how they interact.
Don’t cast arcane orb if you have 4 charges for example, it’s waste of resources. Don’t cast arcane barrage if you don’t have 2 stacks of aethervision, or if your 4 pieces did not proc. But don’t overlap stuff. You know help yourself out.
Displacement, Ice Block, Alter Time, Cauterize, and Energized Barriers?
There are actually ways for mage to have high survival, lol.
Displacement is Nerfed in PvP to 20%
Ice Block heal is junk, and Ice Block can be shattered or mass dispel.
Alter Time is amazing, but can be purged.
Cauterize is only fire.
Energized Barriers, nerfed in PvP to about 20%, can be purged.
The leech from Prismatic Barrier is kinda nice, but it only lasts for 5 seconds after it ends. Kinda moot. Should be permanent when shield isn’t on, and using barrier would remove it.
I’m not talking PvP. PvP can bite me.
Nobody uses Displacement in PvE and the healing from Ice Block/Ice Cold got heavily nerfed. Mage does have high survivability but it’s not because of healing. We’re very good at mitigating damage, but terrible at recovering from it.
I do. Game over.
I just want to spam Arcane Missiles all day, looks cool. Especially when you get giga-missiles.
Me too. Combat is so much easier with free Arcane Missiles.
That was never a thing though. Even when Arcane Missiles could be cast without a Clearcasting proc you could never just spam them. Not only did they do terrible damage without the proc but they also cost a ridiculous amount of mana and you could never sustain it for very long. Idk where this fevered dream about spamming AMs comes from but it was never a reality nor would it be nearly as fun as some people seem to think in practice.
I didn’t say anything about its damage, game play or whatever.
Visually its a cool spell…thats all.
Based on how fast enemy health bars go down, Arcane Missiles does great damage.
