Appearance search shared appearance MH vs OH

I reported this two years ago, but it still happens, so I thought I’d drop a new report in case it was missed (Old link is now dead: https://us.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/20761927825#1)

Bug: Some items share appearanceIDs but are technically different weapon types. This can confuse the API and then the Appearance UI.

How to reproduce: Search the Staff’s name in the Off Hand search, and then leave the search intact and switch to the Main Hand, the item will show up as the Off Hand (name and cropping) instead of the Staff.

Example items:

  • Prophetic Cane - Off Hand
  • Satyr Horn Staff - Main Hand (Staves)

When I say “search” in each instruction that means press enter after finishing typing.

Issue with Satyr Horn Staff search:

  1. Clear the search box, select Main Hand (Staves) and search for “Satyr Horn Staff”.
    • Note that the item showing up is the Satyr Horn Staff.
  2. Clear the search box, switch to Off-Hand and search for “Satyr Horn Staff”.
    • Note that no items show up.
  3. Switch back to Main Hand (Staves), leaving the search for “Satyr Horn Staff” in the search bar.
    • Note that the item now shows up as Prophetic Cane.

Issue with Prophetic Cane search:

  1. Clear the search box, select Off Hand and search for “Prophetic Cane”.
    • Note that the item showing up is the Prophetic Cane.
  2. Clear the search box, switch to Main Hand and search for “Prophetic Cane”.
    • Note that no items show up.
  3. Switch back to Off Hand, leaving the search for “Prophetic Cane” in the search bar.
    • Note that the item now shows up as Satyr Horn Staff.

Basically any staff that shares an appearance with an off-hand.
