Apparently, not trading raid loot is a kickable offense

TLDR - I looted a 385 cloak from Heroic Conclave. Raid Leader kicked me for not trading it.

Shortly after looting, the dreaded whisper came through:

"Derp Derp. u nEeD clOaK?" (Derps and caps added for comedic effect. Whenever someone types at me like that, I assume they are an incarnation of the Sponge Bob meme)

I didn’t need the cloak, but it was a nice addition to my transmog collection and I wasn’t feeling charitable that day.

"nyet" I typed back in a poor attempt at levity. This means “No” in Russian for my uncultured readers.

Sponge Bob was clearly not bilingual, because he immediately opened trade. Perhaps I wasn’t clear enough, so I walked away, closing the trade window. Not to be deterred, the Male-Draenai Shaman from Stormrage chased me down and opened trade again.

"I can has cloak?" Not word for word what he whispered, but you get the idea. Sponge Bob is now greedy Cloakburger Cat. This walking refrigerator would not take “no” for an answer.

"no" I typed back, too annoyed to think about what meme he reminded me of next.

"But you have a 410", SpoBo retorted. I suffer fools on occasion, but I draw the line at self-righteous fools. Instant Ignore Status.

Shortly after: "You have been removed from the group."

Judging from the time it took, my assumption was that greedy Stormrage Shammy was best buds with the raid leader and went on a whiny rampage about the selfish Warrior who wouldn’t share loot. RL agreed that SpoBo was entitled to my loot and kicked me without discussion.

Fortunately, I joined another Pug within 5 minutes and picked up another transmog piece a few bosses later.

Moral of the story:
While few and far between, people exist who think Pugs are their personal loot pinata. Additionally, there are raid leaders who will kick you to condone that line of thought.

Don’t be one of these people. If you can’t help it and just HAVE to be one of these people, then do the rest of us a favor by advertising it when your create pug group. “YOUR LOOT IS MY LOOT” works or even “SHARE LOOT OR GET KICKED”.

I’ll be happy to stay away and save you the effort of kicking me later.

Preempting obligatory “All pugs are toxic” dialogue:
This is the 1st time in 2 expansions that I’ve run into this, so SpoBo and Slappy the Raid Leader are a fraction of a minority. Pugs are great in general, but you’ll run into the occasional neck-beard with dubious social skills. Please don’t let my story dissuade you from pugging.

Or, judging by your already aggressive and antagonistic tone in your post, you were kicked for having a piss poor attitude. I know which one I am betting on.

Incoming flood of assumptions from gd that all raid groups are like this.

I just let it get mailed to my mailbox. No point in even bothering.

Yeah I don’t even loot anymore, I just look at what is on the boss, and leave the item there. Then it gets mailed to me after the raid.

No one whispers me despite me leaving pretty sweet loot on the boss, because they have no idea it’s there.

Dear Diary, today someone was mean today and kicked me out of their raid

Incorrect, but thanks for playing. The only communication exchanged was included in the story.

Nice try also, but thanks for playing as well.

So something someone needed dropped and they asked you for it nicely and when they asked if you need it, you said no…which implies that you don’t need it and would be ok with a trade. If you didn’t want to trade it, why didn’t you just say yes, I need it?

When I was talking about your piss poor attitude btw, I mean attempting to be clever by saying nyet (then including the translation and essentially calling them idiots and “uncultured” if you don’t know what that means) and calling the person who asked nicely a derp. Then talking about how you “suffer fools on occasion”.This leads me to believe that you are kind of a jerk and have a rather inflated opinion of yourself. That is maybe why you got kicked. Did that clear it up?

someone saying they dont need gear is simply saying no they dont need it…hell they could shard it right in front of you afterwards but your implied meaning to no is wrong and on you

I always forget to do that, but I’ve been pugging actively since Legion launched and can count on 1 hand how many people argued with me after I said “no”. This is the first time I received the boot over it.

And I was saying that maybe it wasn’t the loot at all and maybe it was your stellar attitude. You came across as very condescending and a bit full of yourself in your post. I was simply pointing out that maybe that was the reason for your boot instead of a piece of gear. I don’t care either way, but maybe it’s not a loot issue, but an attitude issue?

He asked if you needed the cloak, you said “no”, even though you did need it for your transmog collection.

I don’t understand why you thought that was going to work out well for you.

Heroic would be 400 ilvl cloak

Right so you are saying that if an upgrade dropped for someone and you politely asked if they needed it and they said no, they don’t need it…that means what exactly? If the guy was a jerk about asking for it ya…shard it. Or give them an ear full.

But someone just asking if she needed the loot…I’m led to believe fairly politely…and her automatically assuming that’s why she got a kick (not giving the piece) is kind of a stretch. I was pointing out that her post seemed pretty antagonistic and that is why she got kicked.

Are you sure it wasn’t normal? Heroic drops 400 ilvl.

I mean, I get what you’re saying and I agree with your sentiment. But I have to say, the way that you worded your OP really doesn’t paint you in a good light. I think you wanted it to come off as clever and humorous, but you just come off looking like an obnoxious jerk. I don’t think that was your intention.

So someone ask if you need the cloak and you say “no” then you call them all kinds of names when they open trade with you? There is definitely a derp here and it ain’t Spongebob or the raid leader.

Perhaps next time you could drop the attitude and just say “no” instead of trying to be cute and edgy?

I get it. My first response was unclear. The second wasn’t. Even then, unless the Raid Leader had the ability to travel into the future and read this post, he had no context or evidence of a “piss poor” attitude. Unless, of course, he also has the magical ability to size up a complete stranger based on 1 post.

Thanks for the feedback.

First and foremost. if you are not in an organized group with agreed on rules calling for you to trade then it’s totally within your rights not to.

However…from the other side of this.

“Hey, you need that?”

“Why no, I don’t *sly russian accent etc”
“Cool, thank mate”" oh…he walked away…maybe he thought the trade went through or something. Hrm…he said he did not need it, and clearly has better…why is he being such a dick now after saying I could have it *assumption not valid, but understandable given how you responded.

Complains in guild/discord about how this guy is just being a dick. Raid leader does not need/want drama and kicks the least painful person to elminate that.

In other words don’t try to be a clever dick if you can’t handle the consequences. Regardless of your right to the loot in question or not.
