Anyway to get around dragon riding?

Then walk? Not sure how it’s such a huge issue. Either you engage or you don’t, but given it’s one of the big draw points of DF you’re gonna have to engage eventually

True, but making such a dramatic change to a game who’s ease of use for wide varieties of people after almost 20 years is pretty crummy.

“Hey guys, we appreciate your loyalty but we’re cranking things up and changing our target audience! If you don’t like it, hit the bricks!”

To be fair, I don’t find this to be a very reasonable argument. The spaces in the Dragon Isles are huge and designed in relation to the speed at which you’re traveling with dragon riding. Ground travel will take forever and is infinitely more inconvenient than just struggling with dragon riding.

We have tried to point this out to people but I guess people most find out for themselves.

You don’t “have” to do any races.

They are 100% optional.

The beginning part to unlock dragon riding is a straight line. All other races are optional.

But it’s not like dragon riding is some majorly complex system that requires you to be a master at in order to do anything in the game. Knowing just the basic fundamentals is enough to get you where you need to be, which is “aim camera down to dive, swoop up to increase altitude, use abilities as needed.” It’s more complicated than what flying used to be, but not any more complicated than firing off a rotation while paying attention to a boss’s mechanics while also positioning yourself as necessary.

Basically they are saying doing it our way or the highway.

As a person who doesn’t use a mouse, it’s way harder than the latter.

At this point I think I can manage it well enough to get around but I imagine I’ll not spend as much time playing as I would have with just normal flying.

For people who have worse issues with it, it’s bad that Blizz made everyone buy the expansion just to realize a feature that was known to have motion sickness issues and is harder for a lot of folks is pretty much mandatory. Everyone should at least have had the chance to try DR on the PTR or something.

Except regular flying trivializes getting to places whereas this doesn’t. So no, it’s not equal.

I wish they would have opened up beta access for more people.

I assumed that they use a laptop and have a trackpad. I can imagine doing dragon riding on a trackpad is pretty difficult.

Otherwise, yeah, it’s certainly peculiar how they manage to do anything without the use of a mouse.

Riding on the ground is always an option

I dunno. This time I feel there will be a very strong push to not enable normal flying. Dragonriding seems to be accepted as a superior implementation of flight by a large number of normal players, and the majority of content creators.

Since regular flight would sideline it by sheer power of convenience, there might be demands to not enable it and keep and expand dragonriding mechanics instead.

What so hard about dragonriding ? You can travel faster from one point to another, the only downside is you can’t hover.
