Anyone here use Lossless Scaling on Steam with WoW?

Since the engine can’t handle modern WoW and Blizzard is clearly in no rush to fix it, I’m debating trying this program. It’s supposed to work really well with WoW. I’m just wondering if I’d be risking a ban with it. I use MSI Afterburner, WoWthing Sync and WeakAura Companion as third party software when running WoW and have been fine, but am still curious.

I would be very leery of using something like that for WOW without knowing a lot more about how it works under the hood. If it messes with any of WOW’s code or memory in any way, it would not be allowed.

yea remember the guild removed the aq 40 floor just to get to the final boss

I see many people saying it’s fine but I also see a reddit thread from 2 days ago from someone claiming to have been banned from WoW who claims it was the only 3rd party software they had used.

Sounds like something Blizzard should implement into the game itself if it’s as good as people say.

But why? We already have AMD FSR.

And it’s been broken since at least DF. Turning it on and then setting resolution scaling lowers FPS instead of increasing it. It’s also FSR 1.0, so even if it was working, it would be an absolute trash version of it. This game should be on the cutting edge constantly with what’s currently available for scaling tech, considering there is a monthly fee to keep the game maintained. It’s pretty crappy as is that I have to feel tempted to use third party software that might get me banned to increase performance in a game where optimization is a distant afterthought for Blizz the last at least 2 years. It’s either try the software that apparently does dramatically increase fps and risk getting banned for it, or have sub 60fps most of the time even on all low settings with a 12600k 9070 XT 32gb RAM and everything running off SSD.

Diablo IV is kind of in a crap spot for scaling with AMD GPUs as well, since it’s FSR 2.0. There’s a mod that can inject FSR 4 into games that have DLSS but I’m not using that with Diablo IV due to risk of being banned as well. The difference with Diablo IV not supporting all scaling tech is it doesn’t have a monthly fee.

Really? It’s still broken on Windows? On Mac it seems to work fine.

You can also try using Bicubic or Bilinear. Frankly, the gap in quality isn’t that huge.

This software will give you results about equal to FSR 1.0. WoW doesn’t do motion vectors so you cannot do temporal reprojection based upscaling like DLSS/FSR >=2.0.

Lastly, it won’t help if you are not GPU bounded.

Frame gen would probably help more than res scaling. I get about 42fps in Dorn, 26 - 32 fps doing world bosses and theater event. I’ll have max GPU usage of about 60% and highest CPU core usage is 50% when this is happening, so plenty of headroom. So in these cases I doubt res scaling would do anything. It’d lower usage when I’m in dungeons and actually getting my frame cap though, which would still be nice.

The problem where it goes beneath 60fps with lots of headroom on system is the engine. It’s a MMO that can’t handle MMO things anymore. I only did one wing of LFR this tier, but I had fps drops there too. I don’t remember how low it got though. My fps cap is 120, it rarely gets there, I can get 120fps max settings in Resident Evil 4 Remake though. The core issue is that Blizz needs to move to a newer engine, custom or not. I know this has been done for unofficial WoW.

Can you link the tread where someone got banned? I saw people saying it was fine and tried it, but I’m not using it. Seemed kind of weird to me, didn’t like it. I will uninstall.
