Dial was being phased out when WoW first launched, and in my case it was long gone. I always had a good connection to WoW, and no real noticeable change (negligible lag back then, negligible lag now) has occurred since then.

For the GENUINE Vanilla WoW, you don’t need slower internet.

You want server instability and glitches galore!

… but I think that’s the one thing people don’t mind seeing gone.

Nope. My dad’s a tech guy through and through, and you’d better believe he knew better at the time. My connection wasn’t bad at all.

I think I had DSL by the time CS 1.5 came out so prob not. That sounds like a nightmare to play.

Unless you lived in a very rural area, nearly all homes had access to DSL by 2001/2002. My apartment had DSL in 2001 and by the time WoW released, we had Cable. My guild would not even take raid applicants who were on dial up or did not have a stable connection. WoW was really built for modern bandwidth.

Even Diablo 2 struggled on dial up, esp if you had an older rural connection (28.8 was the best I could get in the woods).

Having DSL or Cable by 2004 was not a luxury, it was really common.

It’s not like cable was impossibly expensive. No one had to be rich to get it… if that’s what your parents told you, they lied.

Or had cable or dsl in their area. Out in the boonies, you took what you could get.
