Or am I going crazy?
The root from Glacial Spike still sticks but Frost Nova does nothing.

I’ve noticed that elites and rares are immune to slows and freezes which makes the spells useless. Powerful enemies are able to get right in your face and you can’t do anything about it.
I know the elite rares are immune to snares and roots but it’s the regular rares that puzzle me. At the beginning of the fight they can be rooted but after about half a minute they just ignore frost novas.
This is called diminishing returns; it’s there to prevent mobs (or players, in PvP) from becoming chain-stunned/rooted into oblivion. Similar control effects applied within a particular time period become less effective, increasing to immunity, until a certain time (18 sec, I think?) has passed.
I know about DR in PvP but when did they add it to PvE.
I dunno, but it’s been around for a long time I think
That is what makes mages really frustrating to solo those rare elites with. You either overgear their health or you’re better finding people. I guess the only other class worse is Rogue, because at least a frost mage can keep running around.
Other DPSers are indeed bound with the same weakness… however they got either a tank or a healer spec to make that viable. At a slow pace, but still viable.
I wish there was an option in the class tree to run like a single tankier Mirror Image, or something like that.
