Doing just story quests, I hit level 60 just as I finish Ardenweald just before opening the gate to Revendreth. Never fails. No dungeons. No farming. Just doing the quests up to that point and hitting level 60.
I haven’t even chosen a covenant yet. The issue is, does anyone else lose interest in questing any further once they reach that point? I have alot of alts. So once I hit 60, I level up another toon.
Is there really any great benefit to choosing a covenant other than getting the mounts? That’s the only thing I see remotely likeable about them.
Don’t get me wrong, I plan on EVENTUALLY completing the story line up to the point of just before raiding. Not much of a raider. Just a pain to actually build up motivation to continue questing to choose a covenant when there is no actual progress being made on a maxed level character, IMO.

I had the same issue on 2 toons. I really don’t like it. At some point during the beta a bunch of ppl whined about not getting enough xp so blizz nerfed it and now you get to max level before you get through 75% of the story. It’s stupid.

I level alts to 51ish…I get them in SLs, but not really interested in doing stuff there.
And I chose threads of Fate each time.

They did that?? Atleast make it to where when you hit 60 you complete the story. Doesn’t surprise me people whined about it. Also doesn’t surprise me Blizzard caved. Just disappoints me that people complained and blizzard caved.
I had this issue on my first toon. Overleveled, locked out of all content, and couldn’t proceeed without losing my mind.
If you focus only on the campaign you can get it done, but some people reported being underleveled too, requiring side quests before continuing. SL is by far the worst leveling experience I’ve ever had in this game.

I do the same. As soon as I get an alt to level 60, I drop it like a hot rock and start leveling another one.
But I have a lot of alts for the sole reason of mount farming and transmog collecting. I wasn’t going to put any effort into them anyways.

For alts, level to 59 and when you almost get to 60, switch to threads of fate. You won’t need to finish the story. Just do world quest or a dungeon to get last level.

I feel ya, the more maxed out characters, the more chances to mount farm. Thats the only real motivator to playing the game anymore. Old and new world mount farming along with maxing characters is the only real reason I play the game anymore.
Such a sad state of engagement.

no. they “whined” because unless you were alliance with war mode on it was impossible to hit 60 without dungeon spam or grinding world mobs, even if you did 100% of the campaign and all side quests. people were doing everything and still winding up only halfway through 59, which meant hours and hours of killing things to ding 60.

Welcome to how vanilla was. However, it made hitting 60 that much more rewarding. BUT the resolution to this was making it to where the content would get you to 60 just as you finish the story.
However, that wasn’t done here.
Hey, mount farming is fun, not sad!

if we wanted to play vanilla, we’d play vanilla. this is retail, where (for better or worse) the game begins at level cap.

Oh no no, I’m not saying it is. It is actually very fun and challenging. Even more so rewarding when the mount finally drops.
The sad part that I was talking about, for me, is that it is only one of two things that are engaging.

For me it’s usually that I hit 50 (or 48), then drag myself through threads of fate really slowly because I absolutely hate the “Aid the Venthyr” etc. stuff because, personally, I always end up doing the same exact quests in all areas just because they’re the longest, most coherent questlines and it got repetitive quickly.
Then whenever I hit 60 I usually am a bit more motivated than between 50 and 59 up to the point where I don’t get the next campaign quest anymore but HAVE TO do the replenish the reservoir quest to get renown and HAVE TO repeat all the Torghast stuff again. From that point on I sometimes don’t play an alt for one to two weeks even though I’ll log onto the alt every day - but I’ll log on and immediately nope out of it again.
I’ve had my hunter and priest alts for quite a while now but I cannot seem to motivate myself to do anything about the sanctum and farm anima all over again. The only thing I really do on them sometimes is the collecting souls weekly, killing the world boss, and doing the occasional purple calling… Everything else I just can’t get myself to do.
I’m interested in doing the covenant specific games but I can’t see myself upgrading them to 5 on 4 different covenants and 5 different characters anymore.
I honestly feel more fulfilled helping someone kill stuff in Dominance Keep or killing the Arena dudes in Maldraxxus or other rares on my main now than in doing anything on my alts (though it still bores me; I just like helping) and I think it’s because I know how long it took to upgrade all the Sanctum stuff (still don’t have the Ember Court fully upgraded) on my main, so whenever I log on, I see that huge mountain of world quests in front of me and it makes me not wanna do anything.

lol classic isn’t vanilla.
Except for my main alliance and my main horde characters level 60 is all I need to get on to the next expansion, if I did the full ending quests on all my alts I think I would go mad.

Here’s hoping the next expansion is actually decent enough to withstand doing activities past max level and repetition for alts…

I had the same issue on toon 1, toon 2 and 3 I just went threads of fate. I spent too much time doing all the quests I could find and out levelled the place by midway through the 3rd zone.
All you gotta do is the most basic of quests that progress your story and you will end up hitting 60 right near the end, than you can come back to the rest of the quests if you want to get Loremaster.
Unfortunately I already have the loremaster title from back in the day. So no motivation from there.
If you are still doing the main story mode than just focus on bare minimum, and for future alts just do threads of fate, you have no obligation to doing anything but level and fill a progress bar for each zone.
