This is the answer. Better Fishing makes fishing a no hassle.

The Better Fishing addon has an enhanced audio option that quiets the other game sounds so you can hear the bobber moving a lot easier.
Just type /betterfishing once you install it and you’ll see the options.
Go to the normal game keybindings and look for Better Fishing in the list to bind the single key cast and catch button.

Fishing is kind of meh at the moment. Easier to buy the commons and faster to get Islefin fish looting chests. For leveling in DF you can just do the tuskar fishing areas you can see on your zone maps. Lots of pools and weekly / daily quests for Tuskar rep, which you need for DF fishing.
If you enjoy it there’s the fishing achievements section under professions. Lots of goals to work towards there. Legion fishing was pretty well fleshed out.

If you want to live add-on-free, there’s a new (with DF) “interact with mouseover” action you can keybind. Combined with a keybind for fishing itself and enabling auto-loot, this makes a fishing flow very smoothly (especially for ice fishing once you unlock it)

The Darkmoon Faire next weekend has a fishing quest that will give you a free 5 pt increase. Also great to walk around the coast and fish up Darkmoon supplies (you will see the debris pools). That quest is repeatable every month so don’t forget it!

If it’s been awhile, just FYI the Faire has the same “+5” quest for just about all the professions. So be sure to hit them all.

That addon only works in Dragon Flight area right now and is called Fishing Mode.
Dragonflight nerfed all the profession quests.
Main professions are now +2 skill, +3 specialization points; secondary professions are +3 skill.
(But for fishing there is also a low but non-trivial chance of getting a recipe-in-a-bottle as a bonus reward)

Also if you wanna just “spam fishing,” the DMF is a good time. The one darkmoon fish is a currency for a mount and it sells on the AH

It also plays the fishing audio in the background, so you can alt-tab between catches. It’s essential for me whenever DMF comes around and I start farming firewater.
