And this is miles better than what we had in DF. Let that dig in.
Holy shocks are twice as strong and Spenders are at least twice as strong as before.
We got many buttons prunned down via removing them or just nerfing them to the ground (be it something good or bad for you).
The issue is when TWW Beta was ending Hpal HAD strong spot healing. Actually, it was arguably the best in the game, and our only sources of AOE where Sun’s Avatar/Virtue/DT and LoD, which as we all know, LoD is still not a strong button by any means.
But they nerfed that by 20%ish. Not as bad as DF, but definitely feels rough compared to MW/Hpriest/Rshaman spot healing.
We also got HI removed, slowing down the pace of how our spec felt. 3 HP SotR for still abysmal dps feels so bad when Crusader strike only generates 1 HP again.
Yeah I don’t ever cast LoD. Only when it procs from WoG and even then I don’t try to target it…you are right LoD needs changes.
Which they will never do because flavor is more important to Paladin design than functioning lol.
Ehh, I dunno about that. The flavor is still the same, I don’t think LoDs whole “flavor” is being a cone.
Honestly makes it more similar to Anduins big “heal” in the BfA trailer
That cone is the flavor tho. It’s cone (and HP cost) was the only thing that made it functionally different than our previous aoe heal, Holy Radiance, which did radiate healing from a target.
And both were made with the idea that Paladin healers stood in the back. LoD worked when you were always facing the raid or group. Now LoD is supposed to be our primary aoe heal but it was never updated to fit with how the class and the game works.
So it’s left an outdated relic attached to a spec that doesnt exist anymore.
Holy is in a great spot for pvp right now so u should speicify pve only.
Funnt how as of right now holy and ret are good in opposite directions. Holy in pve isnt the best but in pvp is great. Ret is good in pve but suffers hard without real burst in pvp.
I think they should change LoD to be holys dps ability (instead of sotr) and bring back the old holy radiance for aoe heals.

Sorry I’m kind of necroing, but I think you might be thinking of gameplay niche and not “flavor”. “Flavor” is like the fluff elements - a shaman feeling like they’re summoning the elements to aid and harm their foes, a Holy Paladin needing to wade into the fray to Heal, an Outlaw Rogue relying on luck but changing the odds, etc.
Gameplay identities are a bit different. Priests have PI, Hpals have a cone, fire mages get frequent criticals, etc. This isn’t really flavor as much as it is just ‘things kind of associated with a spec’.
No I 100% do mean flavor.
Light of Dawns old animation was an ugly Light Cone, which was thematic to the name “Light of Dawn” as in the paladin the rising sun at dawn focusing the light in front of them, about as well as they could do with Cata era animations.
Thus that old cone. Despite all the changes the ability has gotten, this “flavor” has never really gone away, even when it probably should have. Heck they’ve even toyed around with changing Light of Dawn to be an aura around the paladin. But then it directly competed with Holy Radiance and I don’t think it ever made it out of Beta
I feel like they prioritize that “Sun at dawn” vibe of the spell over how it functions (it’s really annoying to swing the camera to try and get as many targets as possible).
Yeah I dunno man, I don’t think a lot of people play Hpal because they just love cones so much

I agree.
Which is why I think it’s stupid that Blizzard is in love with it so much since despite years of disdain, they just keep it around while providing it very little value other than it’s own existence.
You get some pretty strong WoG’s as holy paladin, Id say thats more in tune with their version of Riptide.
I really hope they do something with Lightsmith. Itd be cool to have another Buff class option like Evokers get.
I feel like they are hesitant to make Holy Paladin AoE healing more fluid because they are holding on to that “strong single target healer” thing still. I find Virtue to be clunky, even if it is effective.
IF you are begging for buff to holy light/flash of light you are playing the class wrong.
how many classic or what i call “slow” paladins, which is at least 80% of them, have no idea how to play the class… and sit there “spot” healing with holy light… so embarassing what is this vanilla?
im a high io player and i may cast holy light twice in a key… flash of light maybe twice… Almost NEVER in raid…
stop hating and learn the class.
