The meetings stones and inn keeps when you interacted with them would put you in a “LFG” for an instance that was appropriate for your level range. However it would not check for roles. More often then not 5 DPS would be put in a group. For that reason it sucked and people did not use it and at some point it was removed. I think with 2.0 but I do not remember.
The Wrath LFG was perfectly fine. It put you in groups of people from your server. And did NOT port you to the instance. It just found groups for you.
