Don’t think there will be another, Its a different time & the game is in survival mode to due to age, bad decisions & player participation. I mean when a game relies on a patch or expax for the numbers to go up or try to sell subs for the future well kinda shows it is in trouble .
We won’t get a second movie.
Blizz messed up bigtime, they should have went with a movie about Arthas and the scourge invasion.
THAT would have had fans from all over swarming the theaters.
Then if they wanted to do a prequel about orcs and whatnot, they could have.
Because the actual plot of Warcraft: Orcs & Humans is literally a generic version of Warhammer.
How so? I’ve never noticed that. Maybe I’m dumb(I def am)
You’re not dumb, people just don’t realize it. Blizzard was supposed to make an RTS of the Warhammer franchise but Games Workshop pulled out at the last minute. The game was ready to go, so Blizzard just swapped out names and color palettes and presto! A total original IP that Games Workshop can’t sue over!
No way, that’s absolutely wild. I never knew that
It might but it would be done for a chinese audience since thats who made them the most money.
So many more chinese extras and chinese lead actors.
The first movie picked a horrible story to follow. They should have started with Arthas. The orcs were far too large, no human should have been able to actually fight those. The love story was dumb. Nobody cares about Thrall, it’s not a good story. If thrall is the focus of a new movie, it will tank again.
Zero chance since the movie actually bombed . They destroyed the set and sold the props. As far as movies go, WOW is dead. MAybe a animated show but even that is very doubtful . Blizzard is in too much trouble right now they have to actually start making games. NEw games. Original games. My hunch is in the next few years, Blizzard is dissolved or shut down
They were trying to do an origin story, something to build off of if it’s successful. I’m thinking the idea was to have the movie franchise mirror the game franchise, where the first movie relates to Orcs & Humans, the second relates to WC2, the third tells the story of WC3/TFT.
Starting with Arthas would be like starting the LotR franchise with Return of the King. You need the events of Orcs and Humans and Tides of Darkness to be told. This Arthas worship is a fan service roadblock that really needs to be got over.
They take a long time to do anything. Too big of a project for a handful that make up the cinematics team and much too costly. Even more so for the cgi alone.
If its any where close to the miscasted trash fire that was the first movie then I wouldnt want one. But its more than obvious there wont be one.
So they may not be including marketing in the numbers, which seems odd.
Although that leaves me wondering why Legendary makes movies then as just about each movie I looked at by them had a similar budget and earnings, so do they even make money on movies?
Batman Begins eared even less and I’d imagine they did a comparable marketing job on it.
Something isn’t adding up.
It’s a shame you don’t get all of the numbers then. What we do get, if it’s not including marketing, makes it all a bit pointless without the big picture.
I wonder if they’re just trying to break even on the movies and making the money via merchandising and other partnerships.
That means for warcraft, they blew through 273 Million or so on marketing and other crap. That just seems excessive.
Seems like bad business sense…either that or greed. Maybe it’s just the upper management saying that if it doesn’t make X amount of money, then it was a waste of time and effortshrugs
Imagine running premiere events in multiple countries, doing the marketing, hiring security, venues, planners, etc. that alone would rack up a huge bill.
What Warcraft really failed on too is where was the merchandising? George Lucas made all his gold with owning the merchandising rights to Star Wars a new hope. Selling toys alongside the movie would have helped give some reasons to continue.
They also made it very newbie unfriendly, all the inside jokes, references etc are totally lost on people who don’t play or long since quit playing. The over done visuals (especially the magic) works in a game, but it lacks grit to feel convincing or immersive in live action.
The story while mostly ok, just wasn’t gripping. I didn’t want to know what the next chapter was, I wasn’t made to really care.
I didn’t hate it, but it isn’t in my top… 30 movies. I’ve seen it twice, own the DVD, i probably won’t watch it again.
Seems like a waste of money too. Commercials/trailers are about all you need. Now days I catch trailers online more than anything.
Yeah there wasn’t really a lot of toys or anything that I recall. That’s also where Todd McFarlane made a lot with the original Spawn movie. His one stipulation was he got merchandising rights and I’m pretty sure that’s why he now has his own toy company =P
I don’t know what more they could have done to make it more newbie friendly since they started out at the beginning. Come to think of it, I’ve got the DVD somewhere as well. Watch so much stuff digitally now days.
I would have liked to have seen the WC3 stuff as a movie, but probably won’t happen.
actually, it did pretty good… in china.
that’s still like the second largest movie market in the world, so that’s pretty good.
If there were any brains over at Blizzard, they’d be calling Netflix or HBO night and day with their next Game of Thrones. You could easily stretch his rise and fall into a compelling series.
No.
They diarrhead the bed so bad with the first one being so cringe they’ll never get green lighted for a sequel.
