fury is fun but often when i am doing keys i experience some level of discomfort while playing. not to where i’m in agonizing pain or i’m miserable. its gotten less noticeable since i’ve started doing wrist and hand stretches
Razer Naga solved my discomfort.
A big reason for that discomfort may be your keybinds. Forcing your fingers to extend with rapid succession can cause hand pain.
What are your keybinds? Adjusting those can relieve a lot of pain.
Play Arms xd. But nah really, Fury its fun, but it feels like you’re playing on a piano, and BL windows are just X_X. I might recommend a small compression glove for your hand to help with the blood flow.
Me personally who never played arms before because it felt slow to me, started playing it since mid DF, and now i love it, not just because the slower gameplay saved my wrist, but also looking at big numbers go off its personally more satisfying for me than a lot of small ones. Also it doesn’t feel as “slow” anymore because the Slayer strikes procs going off every now and then make it “look” altmost as fast as fury, even if in reality you are pressing buttons slower.
It can help, I had one a few years back.
First of all check your posture/positioning in your chair.
Desk and chair arms are level with each other, arm at a righthand angle.
Feet firmly on the ground and having your legs dangle
In terms of keybinds, what kind of mouse do you have? are they a MMO style mouse (extra programmable buttons usually 5-9 pending mouse model) where you’re able to offload some of the pressure from your keyboard hand for things such as oGCDs/Defensives/CCs.
For your keybinds do you use too many modifiers such as always using Shift/Ctrl and Alt for keybinds?
I’m so happy seeing all the advice for healthy gaming in this thread.
i use an ambidextrous mouse but i’m not quite comfortable using the 2 buttons featured on the right hand side (i’m a lefty). and as far as keybinds go, i generally have it so my gcds/short cds are on the bottom row but 1min+ cds and interrupt are up on top.
my movement keys are pl;’ (mirrored version of wasd i came up with), and i use the alt modifier for the 2nd row, u i o j k m n 9 0 - ] \ and my third bar i have misc stuff like charge on . battle shout on h , for rend (when im playing mt) and [ for heroic leap
Ok so it’s basically a mirrored ESDF then with your right hand on the keyboard and your left hand on the mouse?
I’m not a lefty however for myself trying to put my hands in that same position to use alt as a modifier with one hand curls the thumb and then you’d be extending your hand in a weird position to hit those modifiers, this was quite uncomfortable with the keyboard in the correct position on my own set-up.
So you have 2 buttons on the right side of your ambi mouse (left hand’s thumb), sure you might not be comfy with it yet but focus on a few small changes these may help.
Put your Charge/Heroic Leap on those two side buttons (this was my initial changeup when I had a 2 side button mouse back in cata).
I’d then put something like Pummel on Mousewheel Up, and then something like Victory Rush/Impending Victory on Mousewheel Down. One is commonly used kick and the other would be an on demand heal for when you need it allowing it readily available.
This moves 3 oGCDs and 1x GCD off your right hand and to your left hand.
Then change your Zoom in/out keybind ingame to Alt + Mousewheel Up/Down, since your camera zoom isn’t something you ever mess with much at all this is a clean way of opening up some keybind space while also retaining the same use it currently has.
I’d also change your alt modifiers on abilities that are done as such to shift, this will allow your pinky to help out more since it’s resting there anyway and allows you to not have to curl your thumb consistently causing strain in your hand.
Have you considered using F keys at all for some longer DPS or Utility cooldowns? I use WASD as a righty, and F1 through F4 tend to be the following for me as Arms/Fury/Prot F1 - CS/Reck/Avatar F2 - Avatar/Avatar/Demo Shout, F3 - Bladestorm/Ravager (arms/Fury)/Last Stand, F4 - Rallying Cry. Since they’re generally not used all that often ranging from a 45s CD to 90s+ they’re in an ok position for my hand (big balkan hand genetics). So something for you that may work if it’s comfy is at least F8 through 10 or whatever four F keys line up above your PL;’ position on your keyboard.
As for your rotational abilties in your remaining keybinds try and make sure you position them so you’re generally pressing a different finger for most actions to avoid overstressing the same nerves that go through your wrist. I’d presume you’re mostly using index/middle/ring for rotational abilities personally my set-ups are the following for each spec keybind wise.
Arms. ` = Rend, 1 = MS, 2 = OP, 3 = Slam, 4 = Execute, 5 = WW/Cleave, T = Thunderclap with SS bound to one of the 6 side buttons i have on my G604.
Fury. 1 = BT, 2 = Rampage, 3 = Raging blow, 4 = Execute, 5 = WW.
Prot. 1 = ShSlam, 2 = Revenge, 3 = Thunderclap, 4 = Execute, 5 = Heroic Throw (or in colossus case Demolish)
Short CD dmg abilities and DPS cooldowns are bound around Tab/F1-F3 and R so with each keypress I’m usually using the same finger no more than 2-3 times in a row giving them a break inbetween presses.
It’s a little bit of a ramble, but it’s what’s worked for me so if you can maybe find similar mirrored options on your end that make it less painful to play hopefully it’s been of some help.
I sometimes macro my shift and control keys to the mouse so my keyboard hand isn’t going to crazy.
I agree. It can hurt a little after awhile.
My problem with the mouses that have the side buttons is that i can’t click then if im already clicking another button on the mouse, im sure there is an option to fix that, but i dunno how.
Trying out Fury for that Mountain Thane Muradin HotS fantasy after years of playing Arms.
I’m shocked at how much higher APM it is than Arms, but I must admit, Bloodthirst and Raging Blow feel awfully superfluous given that they’re more or less the exact same attacks but with one having the side effect of healing/proccing Thunder Blast and the other being a rage generator.
I’m pretty anti-ability bloat and honestly feel like these two moves could and should be combined into a single attack. Perhaps with a fun mechanic of alternating their effect. Every other use heals a bit, and then generates rage.
All mechanics within the Fury/Warrior/Mountain Thane trees that proc these moves could also reduce the sparkly proc bloat by again, simply having one icon represent the new temp bonuses.
If they did that I think it’d singlehandedly reduce some of the piano strain since 40% of your rotation would be a single button like Arms.
