Angry vets in dungeons

Back in the days Thottbott was the only commonly used online resource
Now’a’days we have a problem in that there’s too MANY guides and tools to help players instead, and game design has massively changed to include far fewer obscure traps that existed back in the day “just because that’s what it is”

Seriously, stop pretending that people are dumb just because they didn’t use a typewriter when growing up (or the WoW equivalent of Thottbott)

Didn’t you know? You have to know 20 years of content inside and out. Have full heirlooms and know every spell and ability of like 38 specs. Or else you should uninstall.

I’ve been using the double mouse button for forward sooo long, I need to work on using those instead. It would make it so much easier, but that muscle memory, yo!

It doesn’t happen often, but I do fully agree

It doesn’t, and the hilarious part is that people like that usually don’t possess an iota of self-awareness, or they’d realize that they are what’s wrong with the community these days, lol.

Splitting up queues like this would serve no purpose and other games have demonstrated this time and time again - people pick whichever queue is faster

And when folks do split the queues … then you just double or tripple the waiting time to get into what you want to do which typically makes people just play other games

Folks who are new to the game tend to be aware of what WoW is and either starts off with questing or they know someone who is helping them and they get into dungeons that way; that’s typically what happens and its the nature of being new to something which creates that type of a wonder for people

I don’t think they are dumb, I think they haven’t learned the things they need to learn to be fast.

What have you done to help a new or bad player get better?

I routinely go out of my way to help new or bad players improve whenever I get the chance because that’s what people did for me in the past.

Pay it forward…

And there’s no lack of them in pugs.

Players like this are why this game is in decline.

Pure selfishness

Heirloom gear isn’t any better than dungeon or questing gear.

That’s a scaling issue, which has nothing to do with being a vet or heirlooms. It’s not something we can control.

You arent wrong. But in all honesty, if you aren’t a friend or guildy, i don’t really care about your feelings. The game is the game, you can always play something else.

These two are contradictions - because of what I pointed out; if someone is completely new to the game and is just picking it up, they have access to a near infinite number of resources to help them
And if folks go into a game with no information they do so knowing that they are going in not knowing anything; whether it is gaming culture, gameplay structure, or anything else
Do you think they are dumb? Probably not, but you are certainly implying that people who are new to the game are

I immediately signed up to be a Player Guide (both the old version associated with LFD and the new one that sadly wasn’t all that useful to people and just became a memefest)

Same here, typically folks have questions and I answer them as best as I can - but I don’t ‘teach’ people per say because I’m not a good in-game teacher unless I am given enough time to ramble
So I typically try to answer questions instead

I have learned that some folks take the game way too seriously.

Honestly, I am kinda ready for the game to just end. It’s a dead horse thats been beaten enough, but fun enough to still sub. I wouldn’t be sad if they stopped development of it.

I could also rebuttal this statement by saying if they slowed it down it would teach players bad habits.

If you only have three spells to use for 20 levels then you might learn through common sense that use the spells that have cool downs first then the spell that doesn’t as a filler.

Honestly they should just give everyone all of their abilities at start.

Something that might mitigate this is to put a new player tag option on LFG and let new players queue in with other new players. There seems to be a large enough demand and population to support it.

Just cap it by achievement points or time played or something of that nature to prevent carries or l33t players from joining.

The only time i see people get votekicked for is stuff like someone blatantly afking or casting like, a single frostbolt every few packs. Sometimes people end up being jerks about something small but dang near every time the group sticks up for the newbie and will even votekick the jerk if they continue.

LOL! Leveling dungeons SHOULD be where new tanks learn to tank, healers learn to heal, etc. Then people wonder why there are bad tanks, healers and DPS at max level, they never had a chance to learn how to play. Questing doesn’t teach anybody anything. Dungeons do, if others allow them to.

I would much rather spend a few extra minutes in a dungeon and help teach a new player how to play, realizing we ALL reap the benefits down the line then be a selfish jerk only worrying about myself.

Simple enough, just run with 2 friends. 3/5 wins every time.

Many people play this game for the social interactions. If I see someone ask a question in chat and I know the answer, I try to answer it for them because this is also a nice way to meet new people.

Most people these days will just say “just Google it” if anything at all…It’s sad really. I enjoy using my hard earned game knowledge to educate others when they ask for it or if I see them struggling with something.
