Because he’s a creator’s pet. It isn’t that he’s badly written so much as he gets overused, and cannot be allowed to be wrong- even instances where his actions seem foolish are later revealed to have been the narratively correct course all along, regardless of logic.
As a foil for his hot-headed father, he worked well; nowadays, not so much.
