An open letter to the Classic WoW community regarding changes to the game

Or the lack of an actual PvP gearing system outside grinding raid gear.

I can definitely see the honor system as an issue.

Except they aren’t debating several years from now, they are trying to get changes now. There have been lots of fine debates about what happens after Naxx. The problem lies in people wanting to change the game now, before it has even launched.

They are doing both.

My only point is not to lump everyone into ā€œohmahgawd they’re trying to change maw gayum!ā€ Some are, tell them #nochanges. Others are talking about the future and still get shrieked at by the old crusty folks around here.

You can pretend like it’s all one side all you would like but that’s simply not true. The same posts get made about the same changes every single day. People get tired of seeing the same garbage by people who don’t know how to use a search function to find that their ā€œideaā€ has been beaten to death and 20 previous threads.

This is the problem with you guys. You complain about how you are all being lumped together and then turn around and pretend like none of you are doing anything bad.

There are also #nochangers in every thread yelling at the OP for even considering the idea of changing the game in any way, and it’s usually a subset of a single set of players. This is true whether the asked for change is novel or not. So it goes both ways.

I’m not doing anything bad or I would be banned from the forums.

I am 100% #nochanges. Find where I have ever advocated for anything otherwise.

What I am NOT is patient with self proclaimed Gatekeepers puffing their chests out and trying to demonize opinions they don’t agree with. Get off your high horse, no one here belongs on one.

I don’t know what you are talking about with high horses. You specifically said people were against changes several years from now. My response was that the issue is with people wanting changes now before the game has even launched. You then said not to lump everyone together and that not everyone was doing that, then said ā€œold crusty folksā€ should not shriek at anyone. So you are protecting those people you just said not to lump you in with.

If you are not one of the people advocating for change now then my post wasn’t directed at you specifically but those people, so there is no need for you to take offense.

I’ve had several threads removed asking for true no changes. I can’t even discuss them cause I’d get this post removed.

Classic isn’t Vanilla. They never intended it to be.

I’ve been playing a lot of ā€˜remakes’ recently. Some are awful and I hate the remake.(Tomb Raider 1 remake is garbage avoid at all costs) Others are very very different, but still great games (Resident Evil 2 for example.) There’s a bunch in between like Bard’s Tale: Tales of the Unknown Volume 1. It is okay game and you get the feel of original, but they changed some gear and added in automapping and such ruining other key aspects that made the original amazing (it was on 8 game systems, basically the Skyrim of it’s day.)

I think Blizz is finding a good balance. But stuff like 1.12 game mechanics, spell batching, 1.12 itemization really make it not an ā€˜authentic’ Vanilla experience. Them not wanting to patch by patch or even hotfix by hotfix walk us thru the Vanilla recreation at least once was never on the table. (There’s also a ton of differences on the beta that will feel broken.)

It’ll still be good enough for those who are disgusted with current game though.

I think without Lord of the Rings type movie or show tie in, something Tolkien style fantasy basically, WoW Classic will not bring a new generation of players online. A super hero game would have killed right now. (Overwatch mmo plskthx.)

So really, change what they change. And maybe over the years after release, it’ll get better?

I’m not one of ā€œthose peopleā€ and you DID lump me in with them. Could you be a bit less lazy with your assumptions about what is actually being said instead of just imagining ā€œthose peopleā€ are out there scheming to destroy everything?

All I would like to see is fewer snap judgments, fewer lazy and dismissive posts about ā€œthose peopleā€, and more… community.

Classic is supposedly famous for its community.

More community? From the person who has insulted me several times and called a large group of people old and crusty? Good start. Less hyperbole will also help.

Classic is supposed to be what Blizzard ultimately ends up making it. I think a lot of these forums forget that they don’t own any shares in Blizzard, they’re not on the design team, they’re random nobodys, just like the rest of us.

All they can do is ask blizzard to not change classic, while other people ask for some changes, at the end of the day, neither is right or wrong, because neither is the creator of this game.

Le gasp! You’re right, it’s a pretty devestating insult.

OR

You’re casting about for reasons to hate on me personally and that’s the best you coukd find.

That must make me one of ā€œthose peopleā€, eh?

You should be less hostile if you want less hostility in the wow community. If you don’t think that is true then I don’t know what to tell you. Your opinion can be ignored because you think you can be as hostile as you want but people shouldn’t be hostile back. Good luck with your crusade to bring back community through use of insults and snide comments.

Exactly; if they do NOT alter the AQ Event turn in items and or quantities that entire community based event will wither away in days if not hours.

In all fairness, we don’t know what happened. Some of that discussion wasn’t made public.

I started in TBC. I want to experience classic because I never got to, therefore I would like classic to be as authentic as possible. #NoChanges
