An Eye on Wyrmrest Accord Behavior

Yeah! And I’ve PvP’d a lot (had the Bloodthirsty title the moment it was in the game and probably have 1M+ kills across my characters) – I’ve seen the typical “report X, they’re afk” and “report Y, I don’t like them”, this was way more frequent. That said, I think it will die down once the novelty of the new reporting UI fades… I hope.

Hello everyone! Nazereth over on the MG forums sent a ticket with some questions to a GM on if context is taken into consideration with reports on RP servers and received some answers. Nazereth was nice enough to let me share their post with the GM’s responses, so please go give it a look!

i don’t know why it’s kind of funny that a gm saying the name Denvorer is acceptable on a roleplay realm. but they’re still not wrong about the rest of what they said

I was amused by the examples given. What if someone wants to RP as Bob the builder, just a regular ole construction worker trying to rebuild Westfall or something? I snickered at the fact they seemed to have used a spur of the moment name on that one.

The general understanding I’m taking from all of this is that some RP might need to be taken into private chat, guild chat or otherwise out of public view because there is the possibility that an entirely uninvolved third party might report what’s being said as offensive.

I’m not sure I feel like that’s necessarily a new perspective on things as it may have been something ‘reportable’ all along? I guess we’ll see what happens to public / walk-up RP and the effect it may have.

I’ve spent many nights over the years just hanging out in an RP hub, occasionally partaking in the goings-on, reading what other people are saying etc. There’s been a lot that was likely “reportable” , but that was never reported because of context or because it’s someone else’s RP. If something I ever read bothered me somehow, I would just leave the area. It’s not my conversation. I’m not here to police what other people are saying or doing unless it looks like it might actually be illegal or harmful.

I reported someone a couple years ago out of concern that they might harm themselves. They were saying things in chat that raised all manner of red flags. Other than that, I’m not sure I’ve reported anyone aside from bots farming up all the herbs. (*aside from the person who was stalking me personally.)

THAT said…there are the names of a few individuals running around my head who I feel might take it upon themselves to become the RP Police, because they have been (for lack of a better word) shunned by much of the community. Revenge-driven reporting maybe? I don’t know.

I guess we’ll just have to see how this plays out if/when people start getting reported/silenced/suspended/etc.

Thank you for sharing, Auhgag. I know this is petty but hot damn was that GM response a chore to read, had to run metrics on it to see if I was losing my mind during the commute. Still, great info to get and share.

While I’d personally be a bit more wary due to the increased visibility/“media” attention of reporting systems, only time will tell if Blizzard is serious about increasing enforcement.

If so, there might be a sort of curve where people get reported in bad faith but, if Blizz is serious about curating a less-toxic community, it should correct itself where the bad faith reporters find their actions turned on themselves :face_with_monocle:

I do hope Blizzard steps it up and continues to improve reporting tools, curb harassment and toxic behaviour etc.
