I was hoping to see one of the specs return to WOTLK level simplicity with this rework.
Unfortunately I’m seeing a dev in the rogue discord talking about the importance of doing a “ritual” at the beginning of the fight and bemoaning people complaining about button bloat.
I get that there are rogue players who want to have a ton of buttons and feel like everyone button “does something.”
But even without worrying about your rotation, rogues have a ton of buttons/utilities at baseline. I’d LOVE to have at least one rogue spec with a simple 2-4 button rotation.
Thanks

Outlaw is the closest you’ll get if you don’t want to manage DoTs.
Otherwise, Assassination is the simplest.

thats why i wont spec out of assassination its the only simple rogue spec left.

Sub really isnt that bad.
but trying to say Outlaw isnt bloated is just straight up denial.

But if the devs make simple specs then they won’t be able to show off how clever they are

Yeah, this is my concern with the 10.2 changes. Outlaw isn’t too bad in terms of complexity, but the APM is carpal tunnel inducing. Assassination is relatively simple, but I’m concerned that their attempts to raise the skill ceiling will inevitably increase the complexity of a class already plagued with a lot of button bloat, high APM, and complexity.
Love the rogue fantasy, but I’d like if at least one of the specs was kept accessible. Most other classes get at least one hard, one simpler spec, it’s a good balance to cater to all needs.

The devs are too busy designing the game for the top 1% of players that get paid to play the game at a professional level. They’re very out of touch. We’ll just have to settle for this ultra-bloated abomination called “outlaw” that requires weakauras to play.

If you want simple, Rogue isn’t for you.
I feel like the people that say Sin is simple just don’t know how to play it properly.

It used to be combat that was simple, but then they took that away.
Then it was DH and they certainly made it less so by pushing the momentum / initiative playstyle.
They even made BM less easy after BFA when they began forcing the frenzy stack playstyle.
If anyone wants simple this game is becoming increasingly not for them. They really are trying to leave behind a large chunk of the casual playerbase.

Honestly, I appreciate when classes have a mix of difficulty between specs, but it feels like simple options are being designed out of rogue (and other classes too, rogue just gets the worst of it), sometimes.

This.
The crush of APM makes the spec feel clunky and there’s no payoff or respite from it until the fight is over. Doesn’t help that a quarter of our overall damage comes from weapon/item procs.

I agree and I think there’s plenty of room for both piano and simple specs.
Now some people might argue that the more difficult to play specs should also do more DPS, but I disagree unless it is by a small margin. The rationale they’d claim is that the increased difficulty should be rewarded, but I think these people are forgetting this is a game. The “reward” is supposed to be fun/enjoyment.
So if you find a complex piano like spec to be rewarding to play, that’s your reward, not the DPS. Many of us get our reward from just playing the game, but don’t feel like we need to be playing a mobile cooking multitasking game for a dps rotation. There is no need to force that mini game on people who don’t enjoy it. It isn’t a core part of WOW OR MMORPGS. You can’t gaslight me into believing it is when classic is still around. We can clearly see rotations were not complicated, even when the game was at its highest subscriber count.
So please, cut the BS.

You’re not wrong. Combat was simple but I liked the way it played a lot better than Outlaw. Outlaw missed so hard.
DH is still far more simple than Rogue, though I haven’t seen their changes so I’m assuming that’ll change.
I play some alts here and there and no matter what it is, Ret, Enhance, any lock spec, warrior… They’re all so easy to play in comparison. But like you said, compared to back in the day they’re all quite a bit more involved.

I’m hoping they’ll change their mind on at least slice and dice. Pressing that button and keeping track of the duration is just annoying at this point. It doesn’t feel good if I press the button, it just feels bad if I don’t.

That’s the problem the OP is addressing. All three specs used to be less complicated. Especially Assassination. It wasn’t necessary for Blizzard to carry over so many artifact and covenant abilities from previous expansions. This is where the bloat comes from and was totally unnecessary.

I never disputed that. But the game as a whole used to be less complicated. Rogue just went further than most. I don’t see that changing either. I personally like that Rogue is a bit harder to play than most other classes.

Assassin Rogue was simple, they just decided to complicate it!

Its mind boggling how many people agree with this take, if you really want to go back to the days where you would just press mutilate>mutilate>envenom for the entirety of an encounter then go play wotlk, its right there. The class evolved and is more engaging and way more fun to play than it was in the past. Adapt, get better, or reroll.

It’s mind boggling to me that you feel ALL rogue specs must be as complicated as YOU like them to be. Not 1, not 2, but all 3 must fit your view of what’s a " more engaging and way more fun to play than it was in the past."
You’re basically saying there is no room in the game for people like me, only people like you.
