Am I the only one who enjoys Shadowlands story?

I’d take Shadowlands over Cataclysm any day to be honest.

You’re still getting into it. I thought shadowlands was ok at first too.

I’m having more fun in ff14 right now. But I’m just tired of the mythic+ meta atm

…What story?

I liked the story idea.

It was the execution that lacked. That and the implication “It was the Jailor all along” cue It was Agatha music. Would have been better if he just monologued like the emperor in RotJ

That was just a cop out.

The major problem with shadowlands is jailer and arthas, they were both dumped into trash.

Honestly I liked the story lines of the individual zones, the ones that aren’t directly connected to the main Jailer story. The primary story though… kinda bleh. It’s mainly because the jailer is such an uninteresting bad guy, sylvanas is uninteresting, and anduin is also boring as hell.

Individual zones are cool, overall story is trash and Danuser needs to be demoted.

I like certain parts of the shadowlands story. For where they started - a story where Sylvanas was suddenly full genocidal villain, whilst somehow still being the leader of a faction, whilst also secretly serving a dark lord of the underworld intent on breaking reality - I think they wrapped it up in a very admirable way. I don’t like that they went there. But A+ for creativity nonetheless.

The stuff I genuinely enjoyed was the covenant campaigns. Each one of them was an enjoyable tale, with some good moments of excitement as we saw the return of some fun dead characters. The stand out though was absolutely the night fae. Specifically the stuff around Vol’jin. This goes back to their A+ for creativity, and how they explained VJ making Sylvanas warchief without having him seem like a naïve goober. And then also having him become a loa and qualify for their special rebirth program!

Something I’ve said before is that I wish they would stop focusing so much on a big major story full of big name characters, and go back to smaller adventures involving new characters. Just people who live in the world. In the early game it was an exciting moment when you came across a major lore character. It was like seeing a cameo from a big star. But now they’re everywhere and they won’t go away! And the more time we spend with them the more blizzard have to flesh them out (or worse, use them for comic relief), and they become tiresome. And I’m sick of becoming fed up with great characters that I love!

Shadowlands destroyed all the lore of the entire game to try and make the jailer seem like a mega genius evil mastermind…

Also they turned sylvanas into snidley whiplash only to give her a “DRAENOR IS FREE!” redemption and then kick her maggoty butt into a hole for -all eternity- (2 patches)

Just why… this entire expansion is “just why”

(also the jailer is a robot but he has nipples that they wanted featured prominently, someone in the writing staff really REALLY wanted him to have nipples and that is gross)

The worst for me was the Jailer being the “mastermind behind it all” and yet when he dies or shuts down as a robot or w.e. it is, we STILL DO NOT KNOW WHY

WOW was once the most popular MMO on the planet. Now it’s slipped down to about 3rd place with millions of people still playing which is really fantastic for a 20 year old computer game.

So no, lots of people love this game.

That being said, every video game has a core of users who love to hate the video game they are playing and if it’s popular enough there will be CCs feeding those people rage bait to get their click rate up. More clicks means more ad money.

So following the forums it looks like everyone hates the game but seeing as how it’s doing so well, that is obviously not the case.

I’m enjoying the basic story, but I’m disappointed that it didn’t go more in-depth. I’ve written my own story to fill in the gaps but I would have preferred that they’d put more effort into stories outside the main characters.

Considering that they often have a .3 release, that was probably their intention. However with the pandemic, the law suit and the major negative advertising from the rage bait CCs they obviously cut the release short.

The fact that they made such a big deal about Arthas at the beginning of the relase then literally dismissed him in a cloud of smoke means that he probably would have been either the .3 story or he would have been .2 and the Jailor would have been .3

Funny you should say Wrath, as Wrath is pretty much the first and last time I paid any attention to the story.

Vanilla: Didn’t play the RTS’s, nuff said.
TBC: Who the heck is this half demon mfer?
Wrath: Scooby Doo Lich King, but it all came together pretty nicely.
Cata: Evil dragon what now? And why are these zones a mess?
MoP: Asian. From a westerner’s perspective though.
WoD: Orcs orcs and more orcs.
Legion: Illidan’th back!
BfA: Old god what now? 4th war the heck is this?
SL: I’m in the afterlife. It’s never as cool as you think it’s gonna be.
DF: I like dragons, and I’m hoping for the best, but I won’t let it ruin the expansion for me if the stories themselves are lame. I’m used to it.

If I wanted a good story I’d read one of my many many books. I come to this game just to play and maybe gawk at the graphics.

Cata’s story was… weird. The whole Go’el/Thrall thing as the stand-in Aspect of Earth was poorly done, and frankly, even more odd when the orcs LITERALLY helped cause the Blasted Lands and the destruction of Outland with corrupted magics.

I did really like the Caverns of Time dungeons though. The End Time one could have been expanded for more “What If” type scenarios, and was kinda cool roaming around Hyjal before it was destroyed. Dragon Soul was frankly marred by the sheer size of it, and the occasional bugginess of things like Deathwing’s back, and ultimately fighting DW’s ingrown toenail was anticlimatic.

I did like the updates to the various zones, but seriously, Night Elves got completely screwed almost as bad as with BFA/SL. Danuser must seriously hate the NEs

I would have liked Cata more but it seemed like every zone had some sort of pop culture reference. I don’t mind easter eggs but they really go overboard. A lot of it was very silly to me.

Dragon Soul was just such a let down. The ending was as well.

I haven’t played shadowlands yet. Partly had no interest because all the negativity put me off and I hated what I read about how Sylvanas was turning out. But they seem to have wrapped up her story in a neat way (even though the execution and a lot of the details could have been better), and I’m hyped for dragonflight. So ill approach it with an open mind.

I don’t think I ever got so ravenous about gobbling up story as I did in Cataclysm. Every book, every blog post, I just couldn’t get enough.

Wasn’t any worse than WoD or TBC. It gave me a few laughs and was pretty benign.

I would say it ruined foundations of Warcraft lore and the death concept…. You are definitely in the minority.
