Am I going to be left in the dust?

Just got told I have to head out of town for work early July all the way through up until possibly October. Got told I can’t use my vacation days during this time…

Am I going to be left completely in the dust with such a late start in classic compared to everyone else having a good one to one and a half month head start? Or should I expect there to be a pretty steady stream of people at all level brackets to play with and ultimately find a raiding guild?

Is there any idea when phase 2 is expected to release? I really hope to at least be level cap and have some of my pre raid bis ready by then.

Sorry for the rambling… I have been so excited for classic since initial announcement at BlizzCon. Should’ve known something was gonna get In the way of me enjoying it to it’s fullest upon release. I feel like such a dork being almost 30 years old and this disappointed over not being able to play a game!

If the game is a success, it shouldn’t matter when you start. If it’s not a success, even starting early isn’t going to really matter in the end.

Yeah…by october MC will be on farm, everyone will be 60 and you’ll be all alone in the world from 1-59

If your intention was to get into a super hard core raiding guild, you will probably be quite a bit behind, as they would have all raids on farm by that point. But if you are looking for a more casual raiding guild, they’ll be plenty of those taking their time with leveling, so you shouldn’t have a problem.

Do you not have a laptop?

Nah…I’ll probably be bouncing back and forth between 3 characters before I ever get my first 60, so there will be plenty of people either leveling alts or who are also a little late to the party.

You fine…

The “hard core” raiding guilds will not have “all raids on farm” in 6 weeks. 6 weeks is not “behind” in any way, shape, or form. Even the “hard core” guilds are going to be struggling for basic populations in 6 weeks.

6 weeks is nothing in Classic, and with the “progressive content”, there’s plenty of time to catch up.

Classic isn’t going anywhere, you can play at any pace you want and you’ll eventually make progress. Even when all the phases are out, fresh 60’s aren’t going to jump straight into naxx, everyone will be constantly progressing through all the raids to build their gear up. You’ll just need to find the right groups at the right times later on.

Nope only have my desktop at home and no intentions of taking it and setting it up in a crappy hotel room. When I’m out of town they make us work 12-14hra each day 7 days a week. Might get to come home for a Sunday every 3rd week and I’d spend those with family instead of on a game.

Your story doesn’t add up, but I wish you the best of luck sir.

There’s one sure fire way to not be left out. Bring a gaming laptop with you.

Sounds like you should find a new job.

You’ll be fine. Not everyone will start on launch day, alts, casual player could take 4 months to get to 60, games not going anywhere, etc.

I would definitely get a laptop if my job made me travel weeks/months at a time. What else are you going to do in a hotel room every night? Hopefully you’re getting paid well for all that travel and a decent laptop isn’t that much.

Unless you’re planning on being in world ranked uber hard core guild, you should be fine. And I doubt that you are because I think most of those types lack families, and they schedule their work around the game, not the other way around, if they even work.

I think the majority of raiding guilds won’t really get going in MC until at least the 3 or 4 month mark. Most people will probably take 6 weeks to 3 months to get 60, followed by 1-2 months farming 5-mans for pre-raid gear.

So if I were you, I’d shoot for getting to 60 by November or so, to catch up with the crowd.

this is one thing I love about classic, even if you join at the end of Phase 2 your will be fine. Unlike post TBC expansions, current tier content does not negate older content. Even 5 mans and MC are run through the entire run of classic it will never be ‘dead’ just because a new tier is released guilds will run the new raids but also farm the older ones and probably farming old 5 mans for certain pieces/recipes/materials i.e. crusader orbs and dark runes.

I think the real question is, is any job worth that kind of sacrifice?

What doesn’t add up? I work in construction and it’s pretty common to go out of town and have to work massive overtime to meet a deadline for the customer.

OP: This is not retail. You will probably beat some people who started on Day One, to level 60, starting in October.

You will be fine, people will be making Alts also with new phases coming out people will be leveling and preparing characters for that and PvP. Honestly it doesn’t matter when you join however for the leveling experience if you are on a very contested PvP server. You could be ganked a lot which in turn would mean you need a good Guild to help you in those situations.
