When you guys are leveling your alts, do you join other mythic+ groups when you start off or do you push your own keys? I ask because wouldn’t it be better to push your own keys because of the low ilvl your alts might have? Or maybe you rng it and hope a group invites you.
Wanted to know what you guys did or would be better
I usually use my own key if my group isn’t around and I want to run something, even if it’s on my main. Just makes life easier.

Low ilvl and no score, you’ll have better luck pushing your own key.
if you’re a tank or healer you can get into groups above your ilvl usually. If your a dps just run your own key.
I mostly tank or heal so joining low m+ groups isn’t bad. But if I were to have a dps only character I’d probably run my own keys.

M+ is pretty bad for low ilvl alts this expansion. I’ve seen far more 2’s bricked than 12’s. Players jump into 2’s thinking it should be easy. But the group is usually full of other low ilvl players or players that don’t know the mechanics and everyone gets destroyed. The key level squish makes entry level M+ feel worse in TWW than it did in DF. Probably best to just run delves until you have mostly hero gear and then try sneaking into 7’s.
I usually just buy a set of veteran from the undercoin vendor, Do the 3 gilded t11 delves I can a week and hopefully get some champion and hero gear and then send it.
Not everyone playing an alt is a bad player. Low ilvl alts do just fine in 2’s if they know mechanics and press an interrupt/defensive every now and then.
This is a great way to brick someone’s key and waste your time in the process.
True, but most of the time half of the low ilvl players in 2’s won’t know mechanics or press their interrupts/defensives. That’s why 2’s are more painful than 12’s. A good player on a fresh 80 isn’t going to carry the rest of the group. It’s weird design for the entry point of M+ to be more difficult than the levels where max rewards are gained.
It’s not designed to be more difficult. Quite the opposite actually. Blizzard has no control over bad players in the community making things more difficult than they’re designed to be.
Full veteran gear so i’m ~640 and the old “3K Alt” opens a lot of doors.
If I’m really desperate I’ll start whispering my Keystone Legend achievement.
lmao.
Healer / tank → join keys
DPS → use your own key
Not true. Blizzard has all the control over how difficult their game is. And new players learning mechanics and how to play their class aren’t necessarily bad. But the starting point for them to learn those things in M+ is difficult enough to make low keys more painful than higher keys where players know what to do. Do you think the typical 2’s experience for pugs is easier than 12’s for mains?
I almost always push my own keys on alts or main because other people seem to really have no idea how to fill groups.
I am talking about 12s in the group finder that fill with 3 paladins and 2 monks, good luck 5 melee group on your workshop

There are normal dungeons, heroic dungeons and mythic 0s before you get into keystones. From a design perspective, someone going into a +2 should already know how to play their class as well as the layout of the dungeon. The only way Blizzard could stop players from skipping over the intended progression levels are by putting some kind of requirement that would require you to do every dungeon at every level before moving on, which would be terrible for the players that do know how to play.
I mean, duh? That’s not a design flaw that’s just playing with better players.
I have no issues in 2s on my alts. But I generally also join or invite players that have a main IO score.
Usually people carry each other. They push one main to high keys, then they take turn bringing alts into keys those alts would never get invited to if they were pugging.
on alts? nah. i know the dungeons and the mechanics. i didn’t need to work my way up from +2s on my unholy dk after playing outlaw the first half of the season.
i would just throw myself into it and figure out where i stand pretty quickly.
keep going up until i notice im always 3rd dps and stick there until i upgrade stuff and im no longer always 3rd
Hmm I guess I read the post I quoted as, players who don’t know what they’re doing in m+ should just gear up in delves and then sneak into 7’s. Maybe I misread. What you said makes more sense lol.
