It’s kinda too late though. Ik pally farmers that have made over 300k since tbc launch in strat. That gold isn’t going anywhere

I read this like 5 times and I still cant make it make sense, lol…
What’s wrong with inflation in a game with fixed costs and dirt cheap consumables ? I’ve made over 250g on my level 20 just selling metal bars and flipping low lvl greens on AH. If anything more money in circulation benefits new players if they have any idea of what’s in demand in the current economy.
You are tired of hearing about it? Here is a suggestion to help with that. mind your own business. Quit freaking out over what other players do. Play the dam game and quit crying. You are not good. Deal with that. No matter how much you try, others will have more than you. Would it help if blizz would recognize you with a participation award?
Bio hoo, somebody has more than me.
If raw gold farms cause mass inflation you would expect the value of them to fall as gold value falls and material farms to rise as material costs rise with the inflation. Seems to me that either mass inflation isn’t actually happening or a huge problem, or it is a self correcting problem that will have material farms rise accordingly.
Regardless, in a game where the most important expenditures are fixed cost, inflation is not necessarily a bad thing at all especially for newer players.
Problem is… nearly everything is easily bottable. Strath as a direct gold farm (not paid boosts) wasn’t all that much better than dailies with a DPS class. I have pally and I did farm Strath now and then. But it’s tedious and I didn’t do it consistently. Ironically I find far better gold income from tanking random GDKPs.
I still dislike this change. Getting rid of boosts and dungeon farms is fine with me. But I don’t like how they did it. Too much collateral damage.
The XP penalty needs to be fine tuned or vanilla dungeons need their level range tightened, for example. A number of dungeons have trash far lower in level than the bosses, so people of the appropriate level for bosses and their loot often trigger XP penalties for trash. Mara’s especially bad. A level 52 will negate XP from the first two wings. A level 25 in Shadowfang Keep (the same level as the final boss) negates XP from the first half of the dungeon.
As for the gold farming… I feel it would have been better simply to lower the amount of gold dropped by mobs inside the old dungeons. Nerfs the farming without all the baggage/bugs these changes have added.
Furthermore, these changes end up hurting players more than the bots for the simple fact that computers can perfectly replicate and abuse any obscure exploit or cheese found by anyone, and do so with impunity. Bots are flyhacking or gathering nodes from under the floor for months before Blizzard catches them in a banwave, and are replaced instantly.
Going after the supply side of RMT doesn’t do a damn thing but increase their cost of business, which they’ll simply offset by charging more. If Blizz truly wanted to stop botting and gold farming, they’d start permabanning buyers and accept that they’ll lose a few subs from banned buyers and a lot more from a decline in bot subs as the demand for RMT gold dwindles.
But that would mean less money for Blizz. And a company’s first object is to make money for shareholders, integrity be damned. Leadership that puts game health over profit will be voted out and replaced.
So, in short… we’re screwed either way, and these sloppy nerfs/changes are impacting players more than RMT.
I don’t mind the gold farms. We can all do them if we want. What I have a problem with is anything that involves botting or abusing pathing.
Edit: I’m also willing to give up those farms if it hurts botters.
I bought a healing ring for 1k gold for my boomy offspec cause I can.
The changes really dont do much for established servers but they will slow inflation on fresh servers to some extent.
You cant really stop raw gold farming just make it slower they learned that lesson in retail already which is why they arent looking to completely stop things just slow them down or make them inconvenient.
You could stop dungeon farming completely by a number of methods, some would make dungeons easier, some harder but all could negate large dungeon pulls.
You really don’t understand how supply and demand works?!
