All of my addons are out of date now

Been looking around here for a while but I haven’t seen anyone talk about it. Every single addon except for DBM is out of date for me and I don’t know why. They were perfectly fine yesterday and I checked and there are no updates for them. I just recently started using addons so I appreciate the help from anyone! Thank You!

You have to update them often, sometimes very often.

I updated every addon that was available to update on Twitch, and I still have several addons that I can’t use because they’re still “out of date”.

I had the same issue last night. I have been gone for a long time and returned. Updated all my addons and logged into a total mess of a UI. All my spells and attacks gone from my hotbar. All my traits reset.

Return to this game is like a full time job. I hope its worth it. Im stil doing Legion. Ill know by tonight if the problem has been corrected.

There was a patch last night, I got booted, had to update wow then when I got back in all my addons where shot to poop.

It will take some time for the addon authors to update their stuff.

I think we will have to wait for the addon creators to issue updates for us to download.

This happens with all the expacs and major patches.
Usually this is a reminder to check your addons and upgrade appropriately.
Most games are like this.

There’s two things in this particular situation.

  1. Like someone mentioned above, there was a patch pushed yesterday. Part of it was to catch the addon version detection up to 8.1. Hence the game is now flagging the 8.0s as out of date.
  2. Many addons are not updated right with a new game version. So even if one wipes and updates them all right now, many will still be flagged as out of date. You can usually see what game version an addon is for on the addon’s webpage.

I guess timing for me. I decided to reup my sub last night. lol

That will do it.

As Leviathan just pointed out; ANY major software change will tend to mess with addons. Always best to presume the worst and take a few to check.
Takes only a few minutes and saves much QQ an d salt.

Good luck, friend.

You can safely ignore those messages.

Why ?

It’s a little complicated but I’ll try to make it as simple as possible.

The Out of date messaging works by checking the TOC number in a header file for each addon. If it’s not the current one then it displays the usual warnings you see.

For the initial build that 8.1 went live with they didn’t update that TOC number. It was still using 8.0 TOC number.

However there were Lua changes in 8.1 that most authors knew about and did update their addons for. If you’ve been updating your addons regularly you would of already downloaded 8.1 updates for your addons.

The newest build they’ve pushed out did update the TOC number but you shouldn’t need to have to go redownload new versions of your addons. While build 28768 of 8.1 did have some Lua changes in it they weren’t as drastic as 8.0.1 -> 8.1 was.

You should be fine ignoring the messages for now (or using the Load out of Date addons option)

PS Have checked the Lua changes for build 28768. Absolutely minor TOC number changes.

Try using Twitch to manage your addons. I’ve found most of the more popular addons are all up to date.

I usually wait a few days to get all mine updated. It can take several days before they will get updated.

^ What the bluspacecow said.

If your addons worked on Tuesday, they will still work on Wednesday. Just click the “Load Out of Date Addons” button in the Addons menu, and ignore the warning message.

Ignore the out of date messages, most of the time its just a single line of code that checks a number against the current WoW version and nothing more.

You can actually see the changes in 28768 by going to -

And setting the Last Updated menu to 8.0.1.28768

Spoiler : It’s TOC changes only

This happens every time there is a new content patch. (i.e. 8.0 to 8.1) addon makers have to “update” their addons to the new WoW client version. This unfortunately can sometimes take weeks to months; depending on the developer.

You can still use them.
