All AoE abilities are being target capped, until now

Why? Worse than GCD changes, if i’m being honest.

April '20, called it.

Blizzard, what the actual hell are you doing???

This actually does make sense from a lot of game design perspectives.

Its actually always been kinda cheesy that all AoE in this game has infinite cleave.
Pestilence + Bursting Sores gets pretty dumb on big pulls, same as Epidemic but burstier.

Plenty of other games limit cleave without it being a problem.

I verbally poop on Blizz all day, but this change does not phase me.

It doesn’t phase you because you’re not doing content that needs mass AoE…

Why are you playing a DK then, the one good thing about them is their AOE once they target 6+ targets. With this change, UH is going to be eh in M+, but at least 2H Frost is a thing.

As an unholy DK

Look as far as I’m concerned aoe damage has just gone unchecked and it started in wotlk and never took a hit after that

It’s about time something happened to aoe damage

hope the AoE nerf is at least smart enough to target the lowest hp enemies if they are over the cap in the same area.

This seems to be a change mostly aimed at M+.

I can understand where it’s coming from, but if they’re going to cap AoE, they need to do it on everything or classes that have uncapped abilities will just have a huge advantage. And I’d even include multi-dotting in that.

Well that kinda sucks I guess

… I’m starting to think Classic WoW may have been TOO successful.

This is something straight out of Vanilla WoW.

One of the things they fixed not long after and never worried about it again.
Of all the bad design ideas to bring back…

Monumentally stupid idea.

This is just going to feel terrible in any situation where it applies. It’s really counter-intuitive to be using spells like Bladestorm and not having it hit everything around you and it takes away from the fun factor of abilities like that.

It takes away from risky M+ strategies of pulling multiple packs and limiting that speed is going to be boring to watch and play.

It is going to make clearing old content absolutely horrific.

Even if you can argue that this improves balance, which is questionable at best, you have to ask yourself if it’s worth sacrificing the immediate gameplay value by doing that. This is exactly the same dilemma as the GCD change and I suspect this is going to cause just as much strife in the community.

This is going to end badly. Turn back while you can, Blizzard.

Guys it’s a good thing. Now aoes can do more damage per target. Wrath Divine storm hehehe.

Oh boy I can’t wait to hit my target-capped GCD locked AoE ability

I would just like to understand why, is this a lag thing or a balance thing.

I’m not a fan of it. If I want to pull a humongous amount of enemies and watch my screen fill with numbers, I don’t want to only be hitting 8 enemies and lose aggro on the rest.

I’m ok with some cleave abilities capping at, say, 3. But straight up AOEs should be infinite.

As a primarily legacy content farmer I want to say that it’ll be quite annoying to pull an entire dungeon or raid worth of mobs and have to aoe 486 times to kill all the mobs 5-8 at a time.

Target capping might help with balancing but I think most people would agree that doing big pulls is alot more fun than being forced to pull mobs in groups of 5 because your aoe spells cant hit more targets.

I have a terrible feeling this feedback will be ignored just like the GCD Azerite feedback.

Fun detected. DANGER! DANGER!!! Fun dealt with.
