Aggro issues after nerf Guardian Druid

Since the recent Guardian Druid nerfs, I’ve been having consistent threat issues, especially in Mythic+ during chain pulls.

The problem becomes very noticeable with Demon Hunters using Collapsing Star. As their damage ramps up over time, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain aggro, even when playing correctly (opening with Thrash, Mangle, and using cooldowns properly).

This is particularly problematic in chain pulls, where:

Initial threat is already spread across multiple packs

DPS ramp continues scaling

Guardian’s threat generation doesn’t seem to keep up after the nerfs

Even when using taunt on cooldown and maintaining proper AoE rotation, aggro still slips once DPS reaches peak output.

This didn’t feel like an issue before the nerf, so it seems like Guardian may now be underperforming in sustained AoE threat scenarios.

Is this something others are experiencing as well?

i have only run up to +4 right now. but I am feeling this too.

DPS goes pewpew and we get nerfed.

as a pug tank, i have to expect that DPS is going to blast pretty much as soon as they see my big butt move and they are in range.

I was hoping to play claw because, you know, feral bear, not moon bear. I have liked moon bear, but let’s do something different this expac.

I feel that ravage is simply too important to claw threat generation that when it isn’t available, i’m threat starved. in addition, it is only a frontal, even if it might be a 180’ ability, the mobs have to be in front which they often are not as you try to gather multiple packs.

they did fix the apex talent so the whole echo package works very well.

Im almost thinking that I just do one insanely big pull every 3 minutes and otherwise do a bear dance and wait for the apex to reset.

dunno, is that what we are supposed to do?

i was also curious if anyone knows of a threat table for bears. I wonder if pre-pull barkskin, plus frenzied regen, plus swipe is enough to actually generate aoe threat during gathering.

and for pug tanks is sundering roar good for aoe threat.

I was just coming here to make this thread, did a M 2 and had a devourer demon hunter and I could not keep agro off them, every single pack there was 2 or 3 mobs turning red and peeling off me.

it feels really bad now, not only does agro stink our dps is not great either, I got out DPSd by the healer in 2 consecutive groups and I have decent gear I’m sitting at 259 ilvl

I really hope this is something on blizz radar because even though they didnt say anything I could feel the judging gaze of the rest of the group land on me every time i lost agro, I can see this becoming such a problem people will try to recruit any other tank before they are willing to pick up a bear.

Take ironfur off your bar, its useless and is a waste of rage. Once you do this agro and damage issues will be solved.

I don’t use iron fur in low keys, and I can confirm without iron fur dps and threat was indeed an issue

Ironically, I came here to see if anyone posted about this. I did an 8 key and a 6 keystones, and the DH ripped aggro off me in every pull

Skill issue my friend. Keep practicing.

Yeah it’s pretty bad, I tested it out yesterday with a buddy on his Blood DK and he’s doing the same damage as me despite being 50 ilvs lower…

Blizzard needs to get it together (they probably won’t)

Start the run with “hey, my aggro isn’t going to be solid until I stop moving. Please wait until the bear has come to a full stop before doing big DPS"

Then at that point, if they die, they die.

I have been having major issues with losing threat in higher keys against frost mages and devo DHs. There is definitely some aggro problems going on. Why nerf stuff when its good? buff the other classes instead. Its annoying af.

Blizzard needs to get their things in order.

druids are fine, skill issues all around - crying isnt going to get your balanced class buffed

I am also experiencing threat issues as guardian druid (Elunes Chosen spec) after the nerf. I would love too see at least a threat buff, if the dmg is fine.
These days in pug groups, damage dealers won’t wait for the tank collecting all monsters and rather start damaging immediately, at least to generate ressources themselves. Keeping threat to mages and demon hunters at start of the pull is hard.
With only moonfire applied to monsters at range to collect them, and spendig one Trash, it isn’t enough threat. Apart from Raze or other major cooldowns, thrash seems the only spell to genrate a good amount of threat. But thrash has cooldown, so its not worth spending during collecting to a single monster.
Yeah i can start spending rage on raze as soon i get enough rage AND monsters are already stacked, but i loose defensive on the start of a big pull, for not casting iron fur. i dont know if that is a good design? With these threat issues, it feels like a big downside compared to other tanks.
Maybe i am doing something wrong here. I generally like to play a bit more defensively (i dont mean armor capped with that!) and in the past it was never mandatory to play offensively just to keep threat.

same i just spent a whole dungeon losing aggro even through empowered ravages on single target fights using DotC, pretty much blasting taunt on CD because my damage alone isnt holding.

If you have agro issues I suggest playing an easier class. Druid is too hard for you. Druid is fine. Learn to play this is purely a skill issue.

I just hit 2k on my bear. I did it with Awoo’s eludes chosen build with no apex and no raze.

It plays like a beefier version of tww EC bear.

I feel like dps was lower but threat was better. I yhink I prefer dotc Playstyle and will probably run that build to hit 10s next week after I can craft my mythic crests weapon.

He picks up the moonkin heart of the wild instead of cat feral frenzy.

I am not convinced any of the shape-shifting exercises are really worth it, especially post-catweaving-nerf

YES, 100% this nerf is actually making it impossible to tank this expac.

This is contradicting.

Threat is just damage
Tanks just have like a 900% (not sure the actual number) modifier to their damage

Less damage = less threat.

Not necessarily.

He could mean that the damage was more stable (although less overall) with EC vs. Claw. Although Claw might be higher overall dps, if it has super low points (perhaps where you get unlucky and Ravage doesn’t proc) you could do lower threat, during that time. It seems to me that is where some players are having threat issues.

This is me just theorycrafting, of course.

losing threat even through empowered ravages is not a skill issue. thats a numbers issue. it is impossible to do more threat as a bear outside of cooldowns than a full rage dump ravage, full stack thrash and moonfire on the target, barring some of the elune RNG procs which is a moot point if you’re playing DotC
